Greatest state in the US
You can hunt any land not posted, you may not be able to get a resident license though. I don't know how long you have to live there to get resident licensing.
There is good hunting all over, if you're by the missouri you should be able to kill birds through the whole season.
I will be moving to Grand Forks for school again, and you can find some later season spots there, but the season tends to end early there.
If you are attending college full time, you get a resident student license which is phenomenal.
Great people, don't let nodakoutdoors fool ya.
You should be able to kill everything over by Bismark, snows, blues, canadas, specks, all sorts of ducks.

great state. i spent two years in wahpeton at ndscs. if you are FULLTIME student you get residency status, but dont try to fudge it. my buddy didnt have what was considered full credit load and got a ticket to the tune of 750 bucks. and the g f & p does check this stuff every year. great upland, white tail, and waterfowling pretty much anywhere but the sw corner of the state. out there its deer, grouse, and yotes.

I live in West Fargo, ND. If you're moving to Bismarck, you should be able to hunt everything relatively close to home. I have a buddy who lives in Bismarck and he had a hell of a time getting on private land for pheasants but that's getting to be the case anywhere. East of Bis is the true pothole region of the country. Plenty of ducks and geese but no cover. If you put in some time scouting you won't be disappointed. Hope this helps. Also, depending on when you move, I don't know if you'll be able to claim residency status. You can go do www.discovernd.com and there is a link to the state game and fish department. It should have all of your info on it.

We hunt ND and its great but, keep in mind if you can't get a resident license, you will only be able to hunt nonresident for waterfowl which will only give you 14 days (can be taken in two sevens).
ND is currently looking at changing the nonresident license to give you up to three five day shots. I believe you can purchase extra days to hunt upland but not waterfowl. Also keep in mind the early season goose will count against your license unless you are in the small zone in the se corner of the state.

you'll never meet nicer people than the folks in north dakota.
we hunt the jamestown area and its phenomenal as far as ducks.
not as many geese as is in some other ares.
''calling4life'' is correct on nodak outdoors, dont listen to them.
remember they are mainly residents and dont want the ''outsiders''.

Make sure and put the Nodak plates on as soon as you get them....
I got a few rude looks and gestures with the "blue plates" on.
I'd definatly go for it, it's an awesome state and a great place to hunt.
You need to take a minimum of 12 credit hours for a "full time student" to get the Non-Res License.

see ill be done with school but i know here in MI all you have to do is hjave some sort of proof that you live in the state and you can buy a license...such as electric bill or something of that nature so i think ill be ok....but thanks for the info fellas going there for spring break to check it out hopefully some snows will be migrating back!!

Good luck with the snows. It seems like they've flown on through the past few years. The snow line always seems to leave at the same time from SD to Canada and they pass us by. The very first year they offered the season was the last time for me that I found any number of birds holding tight.

I agree with that! we were out there 2 years ago by valley city for the spring season and stopped into a small town and stopped at a bar to grab a bite to eat after our morning shoot and the people in the bar (all locals) treated us like they had known us forever. Great state all i have to do now is convince the girlfriend that it is a good place to live too and i will be there as well haha. But i need to come up with some better reasons. She keeps asking why i want to move there and the only reason i can give her is that there are ducks and geese everywhere lol

I'm a "member" of nodakoutdoors and hate the way non residents are treated on that site. The only reason I go on there is for the classifieds because it's close to home. Some of the people think they own all of the ducks and geese migrating through our state. It makes me sick. In my eyes, we have some of the best hunting in the country and should be honored to share it. MIgoosekiller, you wont be disappointed.

I moved from ND to Wyoming 20 years ago have been itching to go back to hunt but have not had time yet. The residence rules in Wy are a full year to get. some of the best big game hunting in the county is less than 20 mi from my front door but i love to waterfowl hunt kind of slim pickins but i manage

My buddy is trying desperately to convince his Girlfriend to move out there.
Told her, the day she decides to dump him, he will be moved out and in a place in north dakota within 4 hours. :D
Even if she isn't a hunter, a lot of women love shooting, and out in Nodak you can shoot wherever you want, just be responsible about it, pick up your hulls, make sure you aren't shooting a rifle with no backstop etc...
You could get her into pistol shooting, rifle shooting, shotgun shooting, or even all of them.
I've managed to teach a few women how to shoot, and they loved it, as we all no, if not for anything else, it is a great way to relieve stress.
