using a german short hair for geese

I was wondering if anyone has ever hunted over a german short hair on geese in a field? I used my 10 month old pointer pup all year this year, i have always had labs but i don't know the best way to get his neck strong enough to pick em up....

He has plenty of speed to catch cripples but has a hard time picking em up, right now he just drags them back to me..

any help will be awesome

Push, pull or drag it in. As long as he's bringing them back, I don't see the problem. My 38 pound springer pup can handle a goose up to about 10 pounds. Your dog will eventually learn to grab by the neck or where the wing meats the body and it will be a lot easier.

thanks he has been getting better, orwas at the end of the season its kinda cool having something different than a lab or chessie out there

My springer had a hard time at first but after the first 50 or 60 he got it down now its not a problem anymore
