ok last year my friend calls my dad and ask him if i could go to caton ill and goose hutn and he said yes. so the next day my friend comes and gets me and we are on uor way to canton so we are almost there and we see a guy who hit a 10 pointer. I WAS MAD  so we get to the pit . we start moving decoys around and his friend gets there so we get in the pit and wait. so his friend pulls out a box of hotwings . So we are eating wings and waiting for geese. We start to hear geese and so we get ready to call and we had a single and they let me take it all the way. so i shot it 2 times and it falls then flys to the other side so my friend goes and gets it and when he is doing that we shot 2 more so when he gets back we had 3 so were calling and here come a group of 6 and we nocked a couple and left

The first goose I ever shot was the best one so far. I got a call from a friend who I had not hunted with before, he asked if I wanted to go goose hunting. I said sure we made plans to meet the next day. We met up with three other guys and headed out to the spot. Everybody but me had hunted geese before. I had never even thought about it. We get to the spot and set decoys out push round hay bales together to hide behind. The vet goose hunters decided that since I had never hunted geese before I would get the first shot. They told me what to do when one came in, I was excited. Shortly after setting everything up we were sitting around waiting when we heard a lone goose off in the distance. We got down behind the bales and the vets started to call this lonely goose in. He circled once and then decided to come in. He got within 15 yards and then I heard TAKE HIM!!! I jumped up and started shooting. The goose fell. My buddy told me to run out and grab it before more started showing up. When I got within 10 feet I could see the little band around his leg. I picked up the goose and held it in the air showing all the guys the band. Talk about beginers luck. That was the day that I became hooked on geese.

I was 10 years old and had been pheasant hunting with my dad and uncles for a couple years. At that time, and for the past couple years before that, I was reading every hunting publication that I could get my hands on. I fell in love with the tales of waterfowling. During that time, I constantly bugged them to go duck hunting, sharing my excitement at what I had read.

One morning between fields my uncle had enough. He asked if I really wanted to go shoot some ducks. My eyes lit up with excitement and I couldn't have gotten the "Yes" out any faster.

We drove through a pasture and came up to a pond dam. He told me they were on the other side and we were going to jump them. He told me not to shoot until they were over land. We bumped the birds and I waited, then shot at the first duck I had picked out. Missing that one and hitting the bird 2 back instead my uncle grabbed my gun and told me congratulations. I could go back and tell all my friends that I had filled my limit on a single shot during my first duck hunt. I was confused, limit?

As I was walking back admiring my first bird, I asked what he meant about limit. It was one bird... He indicated that yes, it was one bird. One 100 point hen mallard. I had a limit and I needed to lace up the boots, we were going back to the pheasant fields.

Over the past 23 years my passion continued to grow. I've seen advances in decoys, calls, concealment. I watched the point system go away and the switch from lead to steel. I've had some great times, and suffered some crushing defeats in moral while teaching myself the ins and outs. I've never looked back and to this day... he's still in the pheasant fields waiting on my to lace up the boots.
