i cant afford a Benelli otherwise i wouldnt be askin this, but im Purchasing a Used Charles Daly Duck Unlimited model 12g, im just wondering if any shoots one of these, or has , and if theres anything wrong with these guns, i figured if its good enough for DU to put their logo on then it good enough for me a beginner, im currently shooting a Moss 500 20g, thats about 12 years old, it was my first gun and i love it but its a little small for me, being 6'1", so i need a 12g, to accomodate my size, and like i said, i cant afford some of the nicer autos, and i will have no regrets beating up a Used 200$ gun, the previous owner upgraded to an auto and sold this on, said he never had an issues with it, so im expecting a couple good years of use till i can afford a nice auto, just cant see lugging a 1500$ gun into the marshes to get messed, up i dunno thats just me, but like i said, if anyone has heard about, or had any issues with this gun, its a Charles Daly Pump, in Max4 Camo, with the DU logo, inscibed in the Dipping, i would love to hear about it, or am i getting a steal on this gun as the price is under 200$, thanks Justin

Charles Daly's have been beat to death in almost every hunting forum on the net. As long as you keep things in perspective and expect it to perform as well as a lower end gun should, you will have no disappointments.

I've never shot one to have an honest opinion. I will say this, buy as much gun as you can afford.
When it comes to autos I would spend as much as it costs to get a good one. Good autoloaders are expensive for a reason, it takes alot to make them work well and be reliable. if I were spending less than $500 it would be on a pump or a used Wincheste or Benelli auto.
Look at how much money you spend on 1 days hunting, then a season. I'm talking gas, food everything. how much you going to be out if that flock comes in and your gun fails? I never shortchange myself on equipment, it ends up costing alot more than just the price tag.
Theres an 870 at the bottom of the Bear River that I chucked in after it jammed up for the 50th time. I'll never buy a cheap gun again.
Just me though...do what you gotta do.

I have never owned one but I cannot tell you how many forums I have read where guys have had problems, would not buy another one, sold it after a few weeks etc. From what I gather from everyone else I would save the money and get a better gun when you can. I am sure you can pick up a used 870 or even a used Nova for just a little bit more.

There is a used Nova on callingducks.com going for $200. That is a good deal. Skip the Charles Daly and go with a Nova.

Thanks Guys kinda wish i wouldnt haver put a deposit on it, shoulda just waited but i thought i was getting something at least alright, as far as jamming issues, my mossberg 20g, is an awesome little gun, but thats the problem its little, almost every 3 shots i put through that thing, i end up hitting the bridge of my nose with my thumb, i tried the whole recoil pad to make it longer, not the issue, im 6'1" and im shooting a youth model, basically i need a bigger framed gun, ive been looking at the supernovas, all around and they are the only model you can get in Max4 that i have been able to find, i want an autoloader but my wallet disagrees, i dunno thought i was getting a steal but looks like im just getting stolen, the problem, is that its Christmas and my moms giving me the money for this gun, its 189.99, the novas are 399.99, and the Supernova which is the one i want is 419.00, trust me i know all the BS about you get what you pay for, but why is everyone that i know that shoots an 870 saying they are a strong dependable gun, when they retail for the same price, just wondering on that one, look im not buying this gun, looking to get the next 10years out of it, i just want something in a 12g, for this season, then i can save for something better over the summer when i dont have to worry about Christmas, and hutning season, and i can focus mainly on what i need to get, a Benelli, and i am being picky because i want a gun Dipped in Max4, plus it not like it makes a difference in the price, and Supernova in Black syn, is the same price as the one in Max4, so i unno, im seriously having second thoughts now, but like i said ive already put a deposit on the stupid thing, and i dont know if i can get that back if i change my mind, so, im prolly stuck knowing my luck, and now the Stupid FBI is having database issues so i probably have to wait till the end of the week till i even am gonna know if i can get it or not, also, my grandfather is a gunsmith, so its not like the thing is going to cost me in repair, but believe me, if i could afford it, i would be picking up a Supernova, no if ands or buts, but i cant afford to drop the money on one now, and im sick and tired of hitting my nose, and im not buying a new remington from all the bad publis, ive heard they have been getting, plus my grandfather has two of them so if i needed one that bad i would just get his, but who wants to shoot someone elses guns, not me, that whole you break it you buy it comes into play here, so im being picky and im sorry, but i figure if the charles makes it through the season then i can always trade it back in on a nova, hell after christmas i will prolly have enough for the supernova so i could trade the charles back in and get a good gun for the late season, i unno, hopefully i will find out tomorrow whats up with this gun and if i can even get it at all, i will keep everyone posted on this subject.........thanx for all your help....Justin

I've got a daly semi auto and haven't had any problems with it yet? I did have an 870 and like kelly said I had ALLOT of problems with it as well. Before I bought the daly I looked at a stoeger M2000 they come in camo and are decent priced have never shot one though the only reason I went with the daly over it, I was told you can't get one for a lefty.

Well after Talking with Barry i pretty much made up my mind, im going to try to save my $$$ and get a Benelli Nova, if i can find one in Max4, its only about 100$s more than what i would be Paying for a Used Charles Daly, and its about 9 posts to 1 against it, so majority rules on this one, i am selling one of my calls on the yard sale so anyone looking for a pretty new SMM, head over there and check it out i have pics up.......thanks for all your help everyone and i will let you know when i get it.....

My buddy's little brother uses 1 and it jams with 2 3/4 and 3's. If You wanna stay lower end price i would say like the others, an 870, or a benelli nova. For a cheaper auto try the stoeger 2000. I have that being my first auto and still use it. It's just a knock off of a benelli anyway. You can get 1 in black for 359 around here. I think for the money it's a great gun. Just my opinion though

Gather up all the money you can, x mas and everything, go to Gander Mtn. or wherever and buy a feaking benelli sbe II. Charge the difference on a card. Buy it and be done with it. you'll never be happy with anything less.
just my opinion.

LoL, yeah i have never had a Credit Card in my life, and im seriously concidering getting one, just so i can get a SBEII, hell id prolly buy a Supernova as a backup, but i just bought a F-in tool box at werk cost me close to 4500$ with tools, will be paying that off for the next 3 years, dunno about the whole creditcard thing, cant see paying 2200$ for a gun that costs 1500....you know what i mean......F-in interest kills, but i unno....i decided not to get the Charles so im gonna wait till after Christmas prolly since no hits on my SMM at the yard sale...and see what i can come up with.....

You guys that have owned a Daily, how often do you fully strip it down, bolt out, trigger assembly out, everything and cleaned it? I bought a used one a few years ago, best $150 I have ever spent. I have put over 3000 rds of game loads through it, probably 700 rds of steel and 50 rds of turkey loads. Nothing, not one problem with it, but I also strip it completely down and clean after every use, which I bet 75% of people do not do. I have used it in 0 degree temps, snowstorms, rainstorms, everything, it always goes off. Not in a million years would I trade it for a Mossberg. Did I mention they have lifetime warrenty on parts? There customer service is tuff to beat. If it breaks, send it to them and its FREE!

You can go to gunbroker.com and find a stock. You can also go to Wallmart and get a Beretta 3901 made just for them. It's a 391 internal parts gun with a slight hump in the action. Why is everyone so into the Benelli, they feel cheap with the slim stock to me. Every gun has issues of some sort. If your on a budget look for a Winchester 1300 "win choke" pump there out there used with choke tubes and the used ones will sometimes have after market chokes included. Most of them are being sold to upgrade.
Go to a gun show after 2pm on a sunday and work a deal trade your old in and bring your cash. If your going to pony up and sink a g note into a gun go to local club on a sat when there busy and ask to shoot some shooters guns. bring some factory ammo and ask them. Everyone and there brother is going to let you shoot it because they have pride in their gun. If you wear a ring take it off since some feel you'll scratch it. You'll also find some used guns at the shooting clubs for fair prices.
The wallmart Beretta will look like this one.

not saying i know to much bout guns but i am originally from GA and we do a lot of dove hunting, which led me to waterfowl hunting but that is besides the point, and my dad uses a charles daily 12 ga..and its a 15 bird limit a day he never once has had a problem with it...i believe that all guns are gonna have lemons and your gonna hear good and bad stories about them all from SBEII all the way down to an 870, which was my first shotgun, so pick something that fits good go out and shoot and hopefully you didnt buy the lemon and if you did go fight the store to take it back..chances are if you shop there enough they will, with a lot of arguing and complaining involved of course.
by the way i had a nova and me and my buddies all lined up one day and shot it, 12 of us, and couldn't none of us hit a dang thang, and of the guys was a competition trap shooter....
