A buddy of mine is thinking about purchasing a Foiles Legend Duck Call in wood. I don't know much about this call so i figure i would ask you guys. He is new to calling and is looking for an easy call to learn on. How is this call when it comes to sticking? If you recommend this call..which would you suggest single or double. Any information you could give would be great.

I picked up a double reed legend not to long ago. I love it!!! it was the first duck call i had ever owned. Sometimes my reeds will stick together but thats cause i spit to much in my calls i guess when blowin them. Have him pick up one of the callin cds or dvds as well they are a huge help. the legend is a good starter call due to both ease of blowing and price

I have a double reed legend, and really like it. I would love to upgrade it to a Timber Rattler, but the Tundra Saver is my next call to buy, then probably a Market hunter or HPH, I am a Gooseaholic as my username might imply

Definately have him grab the DVD or CD too, big help for someone just starting out, or whanting to become even better.

Fellas....a wise man once told me: "You are missing the boat not having a Wood Legend on your lanyard." I sort of laughed and kind of dismissed it, as I had a Timber Rattler and a Strait Meat Mallard that I could get singing pretty good. Well, I decided to give it a try...I couldn't pass up the deal on the flamed hedge / smoke poly insert double reed Legend that was offered to me CHEAP. So, I bought it...best duck call buying decision I have made to date. That call is my go to duck call. When times are tough and the ducks are responding to anything, whether it's my TR or SMM or my partners' calls, I go to the Legend. That raspy, deep, nasally sound that call produces puts a hex on the greenies everytime!!!!

I am telling ya fellas...don't sell the WOOD Legend short!!!! The TR and SMM are fantastic calls as well, but, I wouldn't overlook the WOOD Legend - especially in a double reed.

By the way...the wise old man...it was Mark Carey  !!!

mark, does a wood and acrylic timber rattler sound anything like a wood legend? just wondering.

The double reed TRs sound close...I just think the Legend has a bit better nasally hen sound. I think the double reed wood legend sounds perfect. Even the guys I hunt with, who are either Foiles, Zink or RNT duck call guys, say that call sounds more like a hen mallard then any other call they have heard.

I do have an all flamed hedge single reed TR that I love, but I am thinking of switching it to a double. Once I make the switch, I will compare the calls and let you know what I think.

My suggestion is this....go to the shop or somewhere where they have both calls and blow them youself. You are the one that needs to make the decision on what sounds good to you.

I just don't want people to overlook the Legend calls because they are a cheaper call.....that's all.

If your a beginner, the wood legend is definitely a good start!! I would recommend a double reed for two reasons, 1st) in my opinion it is a little easier to control out of the shoots, maybe not as versatile as a single, but pretty darn close, 2nd) the wood legend definitely sounds the best with the double reed option.

As far as sticking is concerned, there is not a call out there that will not stick if enough spit gets in it, so you just have to keep the spit going into the call to a minimum.....if that is possible, but we all get a little spitty at times. Just turn it around and blow through the exhaust end to clear it out or run a dollar bill behind the reeds.

If your beginner friend gets the hang of things on this call, he can then buy the acrylics to add to his bag of tricks to offer the green guys.

Can't go wrong w/ startin' him off on a double reed legend. It's very ducky sounding w/ the rasp of a 10 year old hen. I pack that and a double reed TR as well. My big water call has to be my single reed SMM. I tuned it for comp calling when i first got it from jeff..but now I save the strait street to do my dirty work. That SMM will reach out there and touch 'em!

If your buddy wants to spend the extra $$$, I would have him get a Strait Meat Mallard. I've had one for about 3 years and love it. Its a really versatile call if you ask me. You can highball to those high flyers or get a good low end quack or a chuckle out of it when you're trying to finish birds to the dekes.
