G.I. Joe’s, Sporting Goods Retailer, Seeks Bankruptcy (Update1)

March 4 (Bloomberg) -- G.I. Joe’s Inc., a sporting goods retailer in the northwestern U.S., sought bankruptcy protection from creditors.

The company, based in Wilsonville, Oregon, listed both assets and debt of $100 million to $500 million in Chapter 11 documents filed today in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Delaware.

G.I. Joe’s, founded in 1952, sells sporting goods, apparel, footwear and automotive products at its 30 Joe’s Sports & Outdoor locations in Oregon, Washington and Idaho, according to the company’s Web site.

The 20 largest consolidated creditors without collateral backing their claims are owed a total of $12.8 million, court papers show. Baja Inc. is listed as the largest unsecured creditor. It’s owed $1.2 million.

The case is In re G.I. Joe’s Inc., 09-10714, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, District of Delaware (Wilmington).
