This question is directed more toward turkey hunting in rocky terrain. On hard rocky ground, conventional stakes can be difficult to impossible in terms of penetrating the earth for decoy deployment. Has anyone tried goose full body stakes w/round bases for this type of terrain?

As some of you know, I recently bought a pair of DSD turkey decoys (jake/hen). I'm doing a western Texas hunt for Rios this spring and was thinking about modifying a couple of full body stakes for this purpose.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Let me know how that works for ya. I hunt in some rocky terrain also and I don't even wanna know how many of those flimsy plastic stakes have been broke.

I always found that a cut off carbon arrow works well. very hard to snap that

buy a black and decker VPX cordless drill, take a 12" 1/4" drill bit and use a motion decoy stake.

You're not worried about spookin' birds out of the roost with that? Not to mention another thing you now have to lug out there.

+ 1, between the noise and the weight of having to lug that all out and than try not to scare something when you use it, I would have to agree too. As for the old arrow trick, I have used them before and Yes they do work when you are a pinch, that is for sure. Don't like using them all the time cause they can't fold up and they are a pain to try and remember to take. :D

Give a try to the FA Full Body Goose Motion Stake, it works fine.

not quite sure if you have ever seen one but its weighs nothing and is the size of a pistol. Not loud either. If you kick them out of the roost your too close anyway.
