We are 8-10 right now. Played 5 nationally ranked opponents. This weekend we lost 3 of 4 to the #9 in the nation, but all 4 games were decided by a total of 5 runs and we werent playing solid all around baseball. We are starting to come into the easy part of our schedule starting today.

The Texas Rangers are your team right Al? I had a Rangers scout pull me aside yesterday after the game and talk to me. Asked some questions, got my number and said he would call me sometime this week or next since I was needing to get back into the dugout for the second game but that they were looking at me. I was 93-94 mph yesterday.

Right on Christian. That's good heat - keep firing like that and you'll have more than the Rangers looking at you if you stay healthy.

Baseball is the best sport in the world for hunters too, 'cept you miss the light goose season...but from October to the end of Feb it'd give you unlimited opportunities.

Todd Helton owns a beautiful ranch here with a ton of river access, great crop land for geese and a lot of improvements for wildlife...

94 is good speed, hopefully it comes with movement. Seen a lot of 9's in my day and if they didn't have movement against good players they were just meat balls.

SBE II- It's got some decient run to it. I throw a slider that sits about 82 and a 11-7 curve ball that sits 76 and my change is still a little hard at 82-84 but runs into a righty and dives pretty well. You also gotta remember im 6'6 and I throw from strait over the top so its very very down hill.

Preacher- Actually my summer league coach is a Braves scout and the other is an Angels scout so both of them have been keeping in contact too...braves were one of the first to call me.

Hammer- I definitely will do that for ya if I make it into the show. but there is a lot of time and work to get to that point and it also involves some luck...so all i can do is control what I can control and keep pushin myself.

Look like you've been getting shelled

Stats in a scouts mind mean very little. They are just numbers. More than half of those hits are flares that with wood bats would never be hits. The doubles were fastballs that they were a mile behind and stayed inside and pushed down the line, like a good hitter should especially from a team that visited the world series last year. So watch first, before you criticize. Trust me, I will be just fine.

Friend of mine and a guy who visits the boards a good bit is an MLB umpire, hook a brother up and I'll put in a good word for ya!!! 8)

don't let detractors or anyone else get inside your melon - you're gonna have plenty of jealous folks trying to talk you down and you've got the right attitude.

You're dead on - it ain't all about numbers at your level - they're looking for potential - they're gonna want to develop you with their coaches etc later on - for now worry about staying healthy.

Your height is indeed an advantage.

Thanks Hammer...I was told a long time ago by my high school coach when reporters would talk to us or people would ask us questions:

First, never say something you wouldn't want to see in the papers the next day.

Secondly, never say something that will give a team another reason to want to beat you even more for a stupid comment.

Third you win as a team, you lose as a team, never put your teammates down because there will be days they are on and you are off, and vice versa.

Lastly, there will always be those people that are jealous and attack you...just smile and continue playing your game and keep control of those things you can control and other people isnt one of them, BUT your attitude is.

Christian,
You are right...stats at that level are clearly less important than the "makeup" of a pitcher.94 mph cheese with run and dip to it, with a 76 mph Uncle Charlie...scouts love that 18-20 mph difference in pitch speed with quality movement. They also qualify stats at the collegiate level with the fact of aluminum bats, talent level across the board. They look for pitch quality, movement, speed differential, arm angle or angles, mental makeup, physical toughness, quality starts etc..

Christian it looks like you are on the path all around. You can't teach 6'6" with the high arm angle, downward heavy pill and pitch assortment. Good luck with your continued development..hope to see you in the League.

Yes I'll be there and I'll probably throw game 2 or game 3 against them. We still arent for sure when we are going to get our games in since they are calling for rain this weekend. We talked about trying to play 2 friday and 2 saturday...are you from Topeka?

Gone Goosin- Thanks for the luck, like I mentioned before, everyone needs a little luck on their side to make it to the show

Looks like with the possibility of rain late this weekend, they moved our games up to tomorrow and Saturday. Tomorrow we will have a double header at 2 and Saturday at 1. Both are 1 7 inning game, and 1 9 inning. We will learn the pitching rotation today at practice.

No doubt you will be just fine...Mudder doesn't know his head from his ass, your size alone plus your velocity will get guns behind the backstop. That's good you got the ball running. I caught my entire career and have caught a lot of good pitchers and seen a lot of good ones. Your size alone is scary, there were always the big guys but very few touched 9's. Keep em on the hands and drop em off the table, I'm sure you've got them ****ting in the box already. People don't understand that .500 for a team record vs nationally ranked competitors all the time is decent. Guess if he wants to keep talking, I could always catch ya and he could step in, Best of Luck!

Washburn has altered the schedule for its MIAA baseball series against Northwest Missouri State due to rain in the forecast this weekend.

The Ichabods and Bearcats will play a doubleheader at 2 p.m. Friday at Falley Field, with Saturday's game time still to be determined. The games originally were scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

Thanks SBE. Where did you catch at?

12 of our 19 games have been played against top 25 teams...including #2, #4, #9, and #16. Its not exactly a cake walk schedule...we have lost a few of those in extras, but its baseball...its going to break your heart from time to time, its how you bounce back from those losses that prove what kind of a team you are.

Played JUCO, then for Western Michigan for a bit. The year after I graduated high school I traveled all over the states playing with the Maroons and West Michigan Wombats playing against national talent from all over including Canada, we were ranked #1 in the nation for a week and let me tell you, its an awesome experience, it was a great experience and wouldn't have trade it for the world. I wish you the best of luck..if you make it to the show you can buy a big ass ranch and invite all the freaks to come out and blow **** up :D

Lob out a cheap shot about Christian Koufax's inflated earned run average and everyone wants to meet at the bike rack. All observations are pretty much spot on. SBE we should all get together. We can do a Roy Hobbs vs. The Whammer kind of thing somewhere. Not too sure I can touch 94 though  Can I bunt? Christian will you put one in my ear if I square around???

Mudder,
It's D-II. A majority of the talent there is D-I talent that was too dumb to get in so they go to D-II. How would you like to pitch to D-I players?

SBE II
03-19-2009, 09:53 PM
Not quite sure...division standards have anything to do with learning ability or IQ, but it has to do with school population. Just like high school. Some ball players will play at the JUCO level to get pt and to also get scouted better. Matt Thorton mid-reliever for the White Sox graduated from GVSU which is D II and he's intelligent.

Yes there are a lot of D-I transfers in D-II. In fact, I actually was scouted my senior year as a right fielder because I swung the stick pretty well until I broke my hand. I went D-III, because of my arm they converted me to a starter and then left and came here this year on scholarship. Back to the D-I to D-II comment, we have 2 on our team from U of Missouri. But its like at every level, there were D-III's last year that beat D-I's...its baseball, its the one sport there isn't a lot of difference between talent the levels honestly, just a little more sound.

SBE...your close but not totally. It more has to do with funding. Take Northwest Missouri for example, 7,000 undergrads, 9,000 in total but we are D-II because thats what our funding can support. Then there is Duke University, they have 3,000 undergrads on campus but because of their reputation they have the funding.
