I'm looking for a call for my dad. He now wants to start out on short reeds and has fat fingers. I gave him my Super Mag to learn on but the small insert made his hands cramp up. I told him it's because it's not a natural position for his hand to be in and it will get better, but oh well.

Anyway, I was wondering about the Fatboys. He's kind of a tight wad and not looking to spend a lot of money. Are they easy to blow? I'm looking for a nice, easy blowing call for him. He's never gonna get fancy with his calling, but I can't stand to listen to him on a flute any more.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

The Fatboy would be a great choice for your dad. The insert is wider than most, making it more comfortable to hold on to. As for how it handle; it is identical in operation the SMH.

that would be a excellent call for him if he has the bigger hands as that is the bigger call, i talked to jeff at indy and he said the inside specs. are identical to a smh its just different on the outside.

you could always try the rubber band trick on one of the calls you already have.

I agree with the first two posts, the Fat Boy would be great for him as well as the Strait Meat Honker.

I really hate to admit this, but I have never blown a SMH or any Foiles goose call for that matter. The only Foiles that I've blown have been my TR, DMM and Death Whistle. He needs an easy blowing call. The guy is full of hot air, but just can't seem to put it into a call:D. He actually bought a call today. It's a "Freestyle Call" original. It was $125 marked down to $40 at Cabela's. It's an easy blowing call but leaves a little to be desired. If anyone has one of those discontinued Fatboy calls let me know. He might be interested.

I think it's time for me to go to Gander Mountain and try their SMH. Thanks for everyone's input.
