Inserts/Reeds

Hey, I've been recently bought a SMH and already own a SMM...
I've been looking at the posts and listening to the soundfiles of the SMH's with competion inserts or classic inserts. What exactly are these and what do they do to better or change the call... I'm fearful to try them because about a week after I got my SMM I messed up the reeds and it sounded awful, had to send it back up to you guys to get it retuned... and if you all have any tips on tuning the reeds that'd be awesome...Thanks

The difference is that the COMP Inserts are LOUDER and take a lot more air. They are flared at the end to allow more volume to exit the call.

yes, the comp inserts are louder and require a little more air....

my advise to you is to stick with the original insert for now.....master the call that way....have fun...kill birds.....then down the road after you have everything down.....then you can try out a comp insert....

I just purchased an SMH off E-bay that had a Comp. insert. Didn't know this until I got the call. I really like this insert. It makes the SMH louder and I didn't feel that it took much more air than the Classic insert. Probably just the way I tuned it...
