In my spread i use only avery full bodied geese. My buddy has nothing but bigfoots. When we go together we combine what we have. I briefly read something that a mixed bag isn't very good when it comes to geese. Hopefully you can help me on this and what could be bad about doing this. We usually spread them evenly and mix em up together pretty well so it doesnt look like a breed of goose on one side and another on the other.

I really couldn't tell u if it is a bad thing. We mix it up alot and it doesn't seem to matter. I have Pro-Grade actives and feeder and I am thinking bout getting some lesser full bodies to mix it up some. Here is the way I look at it, when they start moving you can tell a difference in size of bird when you look at them. If I put some lessers in with my canadas it will give the same look as a feeding flock with some small geese. If you look at a flock of birds they are not all the same size, older birds, younger birds, ganders, etc.
In our spreads we've run the following:
Avery:
1/2 dz Actives (iowamigr8tor)
1/2 dz Feeders (iowamigr8tor)
1/2 dz Lookers (we dont always put all the lookers out, it looks wrong. Killer Miller)
1 dz Shells (killermiller)
4 F.A. Acitives (killermiller)
6-8 bigfoots (killermiller)
2 1/2 dz Outlaws/Real Geese (killermiller)
1 dz Higdon FB not sure what the ratio is (jclasen)
2 dz G&H shells (1/2 Killermiller, 1/2 Jclasen)
and I think that is it?
We can throw Ducks in:
1/2 Dz Actives (killermiller, iowamigr8tor)
1/2 Dz Feeders (killermiller, iowamigr8tor)
We don't put out all those decoys everytime, but it is what we have at our disposal for late season to make our spread huge! It is kinda a hodge podge of decoys but it gets the job done.

I hunt the same pit every weekend and sick day from season open to season close. The spre3ad consists of six dozen homemade shells that I paint, three dozen old as hell carrylite one piece shells, three dozen carrylite 32" mag two piece shells, two dozen green head gear shells(not flocked), 12 bigfoot feeders, four bigfoot bulls, ten bigfoot active/uprights, one dozen aqua-vac carrylite floaters, 6Flambeu floaters, one dozen ghg full body mallards, and three dozen duck floaters(mallards, ringnecks, widgeon, pintails, woodies). I'm tired just from typin em all in. We mix the decoys in the spread, but we always put the biggies on he downwind edge, with three high bulls to look like a group that just landed and is walking in. That reely seems to anchor em in on a landing zone. Little cluck, little moan, kill em pops.

we mix ours all the time, depends on who is w/ us and what they have to add to the spread.never thought it was a bad idea, but i've been wrong before.

I mix GHG's and Higdon's and Hardcores. Granted, they are all full bodies, but still different brands and different looks. We seem to have no trouble pulling geese and ducks. I run small speads in the early season and go to 10+ dozen in the last part of the late seasons. Seems to work. I look at it this way, if they are close enough to tell the difference in brands, they ought to be close enough to shoot.

We always mix out spread. we have 2 dozen older shells (flambeau, the ones everyone seemed to have 5 years ago.) with self flocked heads. 1 doz oversized GHG shells, 1 doz ghg shells all flocked heads. 12 ghg full bodys(old base) 12-24 ghg full body motions. and about 3 doz more misc decoys we sometimes put out.. I usually try to put the better looking full bodies on the downwind side of the spread because when the geese are focused to drop their landing gear it helps to have a real looking decoy there. then we mix the shells in with the other full bodys.. sometimes set some resters up by themselves in a small group.. seems to work good,, our season is WI is almost over and that big snow pushed a lot south but we shot over 100 canada's this year with our 2 a day limits.. nothing like 14-16 goose days!!!!!with 7-8 guys... dont usually like hunting with that many people but when the geese are there it pays off. had 10 different mallards land in the decoys today.. only prob was ducks closed 5 days ago.. just bite you lip and wipe the tears... GOOD hunting to all!!

We always mix decoys in our spread gives them different looks in my opinion. it all doesnt look the exact same. I really like mixing lessers into my spread
