When it comes to dual exhaust what is going to benefit me more? Running true dual exhaust or a dual exiting exhaust set up? It will be going on a 2008 Ford F-150 5.4 V8. I am really liking the Magnaflow mufflers any other suggestions?

More airflow.

Well it depends on how loud you want it really, or what you can stand rattling down the road. It also depends on what your looking for horsepower or fuel milage. Both should increase a little but it can be "tuned" toward one or the other with mufflers or glass packs. I have a 99 old body Chevy Vortec, I run true dual with a standard replacement K&N air filter, and a Helix Power Tower throttle body spacer. I could tell right away the low end was a little poochy but get into that 1500 rpm range and it's a damn monster. I can run 65 down the freeway at 1600 rpms and get over 400 miles on 26 gallons of gas. Its loud, obnoxious sounding but i really can beat 20+ miles per gallon on a full size truck with a 350 Vortec.

well it all depends how loud you really want it. I have a 2004 f150 FX4 and i wanted it pretty loud and i was set on magnaflow so the exhaust shop told me he would order me the 11in and we slapped it on there and it wasnt that loud. so he said he has something better in mind. I went with straight pipes all the way back and instead of the muffler i went with the magnaflow X pipe its a cross over to make it equal out and then the pipes come out 45'd behind the tires. if your getting exhaust i would highly recommend the tips 45'd at the corners of the bumper it sounds better beacause it echos off everything. hears a picture of my set up

Definitely more airflow with the "true dual" setup.
I have true dual exhaust on my 2001 Dakota with a 5.9 liter (360 cubic inch) motor. I run Gibson stainless steel headers, 2 high-flow catalytic converters, 2 Flowmaster mufflers with two 2.5" stainless steel tips. It has a nice masculine growl that's not too obnoxious.
In an effort to balance the exhaust by maximizing the air intake, I also added a K&N Filter Charger Injection Performance Kit. It's an apparatus that replaces the entire air filter housing with a plastic 6" tube that fitted with a reusable conical filter. This part boosts the air intake by 20-25%.
This truck breathes as efficiently as an Olympic swimmer.

I run a true dual on my F-250 5.4 V-8. The only thing I dont like is that mine make a looud popping noise when I give it a little gas or even when it is ideling. So the only thing I can tell you is make sure it does not pop.

Sharp lookin ford but i don't like the 45 look everybody has that. I went with 90 out behind the tires with a stainless turndown. Loud and Proud baby she peckers. I used the factory cross in front of the cats and went strait back no mufflers.

Running a splitter to do duel exhaust is more cosmetic than anything. If you want a real performance increase you gotta go true duel.

AMEN!!!!! Thats how we set my dads up!

Thats not always true, full duals dont create the heat nessassary to last a long time unless its done with stainless steel. The engineers at MagnaFlow have designed there systems per truck permormance wise and have done dyno testing ensuring the optimum performace with any of there truck kits including high flow cats.
Another thing people have the assumption bigger pipes are better in full duals, the only thing this helps with is sound quality not permormance. 2 1/2" pipe is more than capable of handling 500+hp.
Todays single highflow systems set up correctly will do more than any full dual system out there.
I have a 08 F-150...I've been through 3 setups..
1) Hi Flow Cats, Pypes Xpipe (off my 08 mustang) to magnaflows
2) Hi Flow Cats, True Dual Straights to flowmaster 40s
3) Current setup: Banks Monster Exhaust 3" all the way to the manifolds, no cats (other: banks powerpack CAI & manifolds not using banks tuner)
1 was kind of loud droned like hell sounded like poop, 2 was super loud and sounded amazing, 3 sounds good but its quiet compared to most exhaust systems, but the performance gain was significant(for exhaust). I gained 12 horsepower from setup 3 to setup 2, setup 3 I gained 5 hp over stock. Setup 1 I gained 3 horsepower over stock. If you want super loud go with a flowmaster setup, if you want performance I haven't really seen anything better than the banks.
I'm about to lift my truck with a 6" bds, 35x12.50 toyos mt, and procomp wheels. I have 3 custom tunes from brenspeed.com (they tuned my mustang when I had it) one for gas economy, performance, and the other one runs higher octane. The SCTX3 is probably the best tuner to get, Edge's have some known tranny issues. Should be sitting pretty nice after the lift!
I completely just rambled in this thread....sorry.

The only thing that sucks about magnaflow is they burn out, get louder, and sound worse imo.

There's a guy up here who makes kits too you could check him out in jegs magazine its the heartland exhaust systems..
He wants a dual system man, its all about the noise singles are good for performance but sound like @$$!!!
Ah yes you guy's like pics, heres some toy's Ive built including engines and custom built headers, exhaust.
Any questions?

I got duals on my BMW but they are stock. I was under the impression that when you boys and your toys put duals on for the ladies and want to be heard doesn't it burn more fuel. Hell there's a few hehaws around here that have these huge stacks popping out behind the cab of there pick up trucks. I just don't get the idea behind that. Then again I am more of a bring it to the shop, fix it and can someone give me a ride home so I can get my other ride kind of guy.
Hell when I was in college my trans went, so my friend and I went to the junk yard to get one. I jacked the car up, put it on stands and proceced to remove the trans. Problem was once I got it out 5 things happened. 1 i didn't have the car high enough to move the trans out 2 you need some form of dolly to move it out of the way. 3 never ever do a job like that in the winter on the ground 4 make sure you have some type of large jack so you can get the blocks of wood under the jacks to get it higher 5 don't be scared to call someone who knows what there doing and make it look easy.
I also forgot when you start to pull it have plenty of card board and sand for the oil goes all over. I think that stain stayed on that drive way for the next 15 years and I always took a smack down at the Christmas table even 25 years later.
I also learned a few things then I am by no means a shade tree mechanic.
I miss those days.

Do you want a cat back exhaust ot a turbo back exhaust. The turbo back exhaust will give you a nice rumble more so than a cat back exhaust.
More air flow equals better engine performance because it is letting your engine breath a bit easier. It is more noticeable in diesel trucks nowadays. Plus on a diesel it lowers the EGT's too, but in a F 150 you don't have that problem.

one thing why i hate fords beacuse of their CATS set up. they have 4 cat system on their 04's and 05's the front cats have the O2 sensors so cant touch those but the rear cats are useless lol i want to hack my rear ones off and get my exhaust redone.
