I got a new 28 gauge O/U back in June and said that I wanted to shoot a goose with it this year. Right away I went out and bought a couple boxes of Bismuth and shot it during teal season. I liked the result. I knew geese were going to present a challenge as the barrels are fixed chokes. I could not get any after market chokes, or even try constricting them anymore. (I believe they are IC/M.)

So here it is a little over a month into the season and I find it time to break out the "boomstick". When we get to the field I put the standard weapon (12 gauge) into the blind and then get out the 28. My friend says "You won't kill a goose with that thing." I say "We'll see". His response "$10 says you don't kill a goose". "Today?" I reply. "No cripples count, Kills only" he responded. I smiled and nodded.

30 minutes later we have a flock of 25 come in and he calls the shot. First shot I fold one stone dead right in front of him, second shot crumples one on the left of him. He never fired a shot. Meanwhile I am now out of the layout blind like a kid on Christmas morning screaming "That's a double with the 28 Bee ITCH. And was that $10 a bird ?!?!" I then proceed to crack open the chamber and pull the 2 hulls out, show him, smile and put them in my pocket.

I then put the gun away and got out the 12. I didn't want to ruin the moment. I'll stay 100% for the time being.

Here they are. Harvested with 3/4 ounce Bismuth 6 shot.

That's awesome h2o!!! You must have hit them in the head and neck. Because Bismuth 6's have about the same energy as steel 4's, which will not kill big honkers unless hit in the head/neck. Excellent job! I have my dad's 20 gauge over and under and wouldn't mind busting a goose or 2 with it before the season is over.

Head and neck is the only place to shoot them! Steel will chip teeth!

It also helps when the first one was shot at 8 yards and second one inside 15 yards.

Looking at a .410 for next year.

Damn that's close! Were you in a pit or layout blind? Those honks prolly didnt know what hit 'em. Me, iowamigr8tor, and kingkilla have had mallards that close this year in cornfields, in fact I tripled on 3 greenheads out of a flock 100+ that had the landing gear down. 8) No geese real close yet, but you don't gotta have 'em right in your face when you shoot Benelli SBE's with BB's and PATTERNMASTERS right Derek?!

This was out of a layout blind. Here's some video. Not great caliber, but it works for me.
