You can go up to 265/75R16 without any mods. 285's if you crank up the torsion bars and even then, you might rub a little at full turn. As far as tires go, I like Firestone, but they don't have much to choose from in actual "mud" tires. I run Destination A/T's on my Tundra. I don't remember if they make a M/T or not. I can't stand BFG's. I work at OK Tire in Fargo and used to have a Duramax. I had Transforce A/T's on my duramax. You do also have to remember that your 2500 requires 10 ply tires(Load Range E). Let me know if you have any more ?'s. I can pm my phone number.

pretty much what he said. im sorry but GM veicles you cant fit alot of tire in their. now if it was a ford you could go with some 325's with only 2in leveling kit but a buddy of mine has a 2007 2500 HD duramax with his torisons cranked which is the worst thing you could do and he rubs with 305's. hopes this help but keep in mind do not crank torsion bars up you will feel like your on a buckin horse when driving your truck.

I have the 2500HD and I have six inches and 35's and they still rub when I am in reverse and hit a bump or something. I'd recommend staying with the 33's or smaller. I recently replaced the bearings, Idler/pitman arms and both sides ball joints. The ball joints are bad because the bottoms are threaded so if you don't have the right tools you'll need to take it in. A good way to look at it is whatever you spend on the rims, tires, and lift double that and look forward to paying it in repairs over the next few years.
To answer you question. I'd recommend the Toyo mudders. They seem to be holding on the longest for being non road biased tires.

terra grapplers are junk
go with either the pro comp extreme at bfg mt or even firestones destination mt.
on my 04 z71 i cranked the tbars all the way up and could fit 285s with no rubbing. now on the new body styles they did away with torsion bars and have coil overs. im hoping to get my 2.5 inch level kit and bfg mud terrain tires on tomorrow but dunno if i will or not

I'll second the Cooper ST's, also check out the Cooper ATR and and STT if you want to go with some more rubber.

i have a 07 half ton and you are right they do not have torsion bars. i dont know on the 3/4 tons. i have the 2 in. leveling kit for mine and it still could use another 1/2 in.

Keep in mind. You DO NOT have to put load range E tires on your truck. I have a 01 1500HD and run a load range C on it. The load range E tires are going to have a stiffer sidewall and give you that lumberwagon feel. You only need the heavy sidewall if you are hauling heavy loads. The lighter sidewall will not affect anything.
I'm running 285/75/16 Dueler A/T. I have my bars turned up a bit and only rub when I hit a bump at full turn. Father-in-law has BFG A/T on his GMC 2500HD and has 60,000 on this set and replaced his last set after 89,000 rounds. Rotate them regularly and they'll last you a long time.

x10, You get what you pay for here, they are a little pricey, but not too horribly noisy, and they last forever it seems.

I ran 285 BFGs on my 05 Dmax, no lift, just cranked the t-bars - fixed the rubbing by cutting the wheel well liner a bit then never a problem.
I got 50 K on a set and they still looked pretty good when I traded it in...it'd be tough to convince me to run anything else - been through 2 sets, all got great miles on 'em and got me through a lot of muddy crap in Canada and heavy snow in Colorado.
Friend has a new 2500 dmax, lifted it 4 inches and put 35 inch procomps under it - it's as quiet as my 1500 is with 285 BFGs...
