I know this is a waterfowl site but i also know alot of you guys archery hunt. I'm trying to start and make my own new arrows. And my question is when you put your wrap on your arrows are you supposed to put your veins on over top of that wrap? I"ve done it and i've gotten the arrows to shoot great but after like 10 shots the veins start to pop off. jw if the arrow glue isnt good enough or if theres something else i should be doing

You wanna make sure your glueing to a very clean surface, so scrap any old excess veins off with a knife and rub it down and clean it with acetone or something like that. I used to use a cement called "Fletch Tite" or something and it worked great. Also, when you do have the vein glued on, add a bit more glue to the points/end of the veins to keep the ends from slidding off if you sink and arrow deep into your target or something that will rub up against your veins......

you didn't mention if your fletching straight or helical but make sure the base of the fletch is 100% in contact with the shaft. also make sure there are no wrinkles or bumps in the wrap. let them dry several hours before moving and at least a day before shooting.

I really good couple of products to use if you are shooting veins is Goat Tuff Flecth glue and this product

You just spray it on after the vein is pressed against the shaft and it speeds up the glues drying process. We use it at the archery shop I work at and it is awesome. There is a guy I work with that can do a dozen arrows in like 3 mins because of that stuff. And the arrows are ready to shoot when you are done cause the glue drys so fast. Just be sure to have the vien flush to the shaft before applying the glue and the excellerator.

What type of glue are you using? That could be part of the problem. I just use loc tight control gel. It, like goat tuff is a cyanoacrolate meaning it dries when it is deprived of oxygen. The fletch tite mentioned above bonds standard like elmers, just way stronger.

Alright thanks guys. And as for as the glue goes i'm just using some cheap fletching glue that doesnt cost very much, and I thought that would probably be the problem and it doesnt sound like i'm letting them dry nearly! long enough. I've been letting them dry for like half an hour not 24. But thnx for everything

Try different glues, you will be amazed at one compared to another. Fastset is good stuff. I also had some stuff made by Carolina Archery products that was good.

You don't need to get fancy with the glue i use super glue. the main thing is to make sure your surface is clean and your getting good contact. I go from fletching jig to shooting the bail in less than five minutes.
