Took this 22 pounder this morning, 9.5" beard and 7/8" spurs. I also took a 17 pound jake yesterday. I don't shoot jakes all the time, but with a $175 non-resident license and only 7 days to make it happen, I'm shootin' some birds. :)
Anyway, I wound up getting my four bird limit. The strategy here for this year was to aggressively call in a boss hen with a tom on her heels.

Nice looking birds you got there. Too bad it wasn't all four species to complete the slam. Did you use the DSD jake in any of your setups?

In case anyone is interested in bird activity and what they responded to, call-wise, I wrote a field journal on Chasin the Limit, detailing each account.

at the risk of sounding like a dummy..what exactly is aggressive calling for turkeys?...this is only my second year and i just dont know whats going on really...i can run a mouth pretty darn well but im just not what i would consider a turkey hunter yet...i know what aggressive calling for ducks and geese is but not turkeys...so answers would help out especially for the morning;)

at the risk of sounding like a dummy..what exactly is aggressive calling for turkeys?...
That's actually a good question and I should have been more specific or maybe used another word, like volume.
YELPS: Non-aggressive would be 4-7 soft and evenly spaced yelps (tree yelps); aggressive would be a 15-25 note crescendo; starting soft and gradually building to full volume. Basically the opposite of a duck hail call.
You can also do an overlap technique in order to sound like two aggressive hens. Example: Start your 20 note yelp with a slate, then half way through, do the same with your mouth call; kinda like the "Row row row your boat" song.
CLUCKS: Non-aggressive would be soft clucks, evenly spaced, like a content hen meandering through the woods. Mixing in soft purrs is great pillow talk as well. Aggressive clucks are loud unevenly spaced (sometimes almost on top of each other) and sometimes the prelude to aggressive yelps.
CUTTS are typically aggressive in and of themselves.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
