Randy, you're location says northern Illinois. Is this where you've been picking the little buggers? Last week, it was so cool in the mornings I figured the ground temperature still needed to warm up some before they started poppin'. My uncle in SE Iowa says he's found a few. But here in central Iowa, it seems like we get them about a week later than they do down there. Hopefully, I'll get to pick some and eat some this weekend.

Three of us found about 4 pounds last Wednesday, probably 75% grays. Saposed to rain this weekend and climb into the 80's. Should be perfect...I hope

They are awesome. It's hard to find them though because so many people love them.

They kind of have a earthy taste to them. If you like mushrooms u will love these. As far as cooking the I put a little olive oil in a frypan and just sauté but not to long or they get like rubber. Butter also works but keep the temp. low. http://www.foilesstraitmeat.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gifhttp://www.foilesstraitmeat.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif

Found 2lbs Sunday in about 2 hours... Not to bad of a walk.
found 20lbs then ran out of bag room. they were some of the biggest mushrooms ive ever gotten. usually they are 2-3 inches and the occasional big one. more then half were dollar bill sized.
going back tomorrow, with more bags. they are going for $25-$30/lb here.
