Alright boys heres the deal.....i have a remington 1100 that i inherited from my dad when he passed away. he used it for deer hunting mainly but i have the regular barrel that comes with it. i was thinkin about addin a 26 inch rem barrel and a patternmaster to it so i could shoot 3 inch shells out of it. and use my 20 gauge 870 for deer hunting. im wanting to add a scope to whatever gun i use for deer hunting. i could buy a cantilever for the 1100 but not the 870. i need the scope for deer huntin due to the fact that my right eye is 20/40 and my left eye for some reason is 20/20. me usin rifle sites is a scary thing. im all over.

i have thought about just puttin the 1100 back to deer duties and buyin a new gun for duck and goose hunting. winchester just came out with a super x3 that has caught my eye big time. but i also like the super black eagle and the 1187.

If u guys were in my position would u buy the new gun and redelagate the 1100 to the deer slayer it once was for my dad? or buy the 26 barrel and a b square/scope for the 20 gauge? i should probably due this in a poll but id rather get everyone personal imput then just clickin one option or the other.

thanks

ps i have already figured up the money end of it and i know what it points too.....but not sure if its what i want.

Tough decisions... I am the tupe that doesn't like to have a single gun to do everything, I have a different gun for every need. If you prefer an auto loader for ducks and Geese, buy the new barrel, but instead of buying a new slug barrel also, consider the H&R Ultraslug, you will be hard pressed to find a more accurate slug gun. and it is cheaper than a new barrel :D

If you don't mind a pump for goose huntin' look at the Benelli Nova, I have two and love them, and I know Pat B. just bought one. Plus this will give you the 3.5" capability.

Good luck deciding,
Jeff

Man tough deal. I would put dads gun up or use it only for deer hunting. If you start messing with it you'll kick yourself in the ass later. Those things just mean more to you after time.

I've talked with Browning/Winchester about the SX3 and it sounds like the cats ass. I've got 2 on order for when they hit the streets. Sit back and wait till I get a couple and we test them good...No hurry for that new waterfowl gun this time of year right? Sit tight and I'll let you know how they work out. The SX2 will be getting cheaper and there isnt a more solid gun made...something else to think about.

Kelly i like your thinking. when i killed my deer with the 20 gauge this year it didnt feel right. i killed one with the 1100 last year and your right it added to the sentimetal value especially since it was my first deer ever. unfortunately i never took up huntin when dad was alive, i was too caught up in high school sports. dad put many a deer down with that gun and i think id like to add to that.

let me know what u think about that gun. i saw it on the site and it like instantly made my mind up. heck even an sx2 wouldnt be bad still shoot 3.5s. the beneli sbe is nice but i just cant swing the funds for that and the othr barrels etc. the nova wouldnt be bad but i get spastic while tryin to pump a gun with a flock on top of me. i tend to short stroke and jam it in the ol 870 wingmaster.

ps kelly whats new for the sx3 compared to the sx2. i know it has a different look but what else????

Not sure on all of the differences, I know the gas venting system has been changed. We get to go to the SHOT Show a little early for a media writers shoot and play with all of the new toys. I'll have a better feel for things when I get home from Vegas.

any other guns you guys think i shoudl check out. someone sugested the mossberg 935 anyone got any experience with this gun. What kelly said deffinately made part of my mind up. i deffinately do not want anything to happen to that gun. gun holds a ton of centimental value to me as does the 870 wingmaster and pse nova i also inherited from dad. the 1100 is goin back to deer slayin duties. i figure thats a little less risky then duck hunting. duck huntin i guess isnt so much risky but it has a higher chance of somethin goin wrong to me like maybe the gun falls off the boat into the river and sinks or somethin i dunno probably just paranoid lol. the gun did mess up on me this year and i was scared to death it was somethin i had done to it. it would shoot the first shell and that was it wouldnt kick the others in. that problem has since been fixed :D

I have heard mixed reviews on the 935, I have some experience with Mossberg Autoloaders, but it was their heavy duty government sales "Jungle Gun" and was a bit different then the 935 and other civilian models.

I have been hearing some good things about a russian gun made by Baikal and imported by Remington under the Spartan name.

As far as duck and goose hunting goes,I don't know of any type of hunting that is harder on gear, we tear things up every year, break something almost every hunt, and it is the only type of hunting that I have had to stop by an emergency room on my way home from. (Twice)

Good luck deciding, their are so many good guns out their today, in just about every price range, makes choosing one kind of tough.

Steve....if it were me....I would grab a slug barrel for that 1100 (talk to jay at discount house...i bought a rifled slug barrel w/ rifle sights there for nothing), then I would probably hoard my money away and but a berretta or benelli. I have an old berretta 390 and it's just as good now as it was 7 years ago. I am gonna talk to jeff about a benelli here soon! I would just save up and get ya a GOOD quality gun that you'll have forever. Stay away from mossberg in my opinion...and i've seen those WIN super x-2's have a ton of trouble...firing pins mostly. Anyway..hope this helps...

Kinda what id figured on mossbergs. I have a freind who shoots an 835 and has never had problems, guess he got lucky. Im more than likely gonna go with an auto of some type for duck huntin. i do have a slug barrel for the 1100 already but i was thinkin about gettn a cantilver that or ill just grab a bsquare/scope and save a few bucks. Any money i get from here on out is goin right to the savings account. Bass pro usualyl has a huge gun sale durin the summer so ill just go down there check em all out i guess and get whatever one i like the most. WHo knows that cabellas might be done by the mills before season comes in and maybe they will have some deals.

I am ending a hard third year on my X2 and just can't say enough good about the gun! I have hunted in about every weather condition Mother Nature can throw at me and have never had a problem with it. It is nice in September to shoot geese in the a.m. with 3.5" loads to throwing in some 2.75" game loads for doves in the afternoon and not having to worry about jam-ups or changing parts on the gun depending on the load. I can't even imagine how many thousands of rounds I have fired through this gun and it just screams to shoot more.
One cosmetic issue with my X2 is that the first three inches from the end of the barrel has turned more silver than black, I think the is due to the amount that I have shot and shooting high velocity loads.

well guys after much consideration the 1100 has the slug barrel back on it and is goin to be receivin a b square. hopefully work will start up here again soon so i can start puttin money back for a new gun. looks like it will be one of the superxs, an xtrema, or maybe if i can swing it the sbe 2(not rulin out a 390 if the funds for the others arent there). im hopin my tax return will be enough to pay off my bass pro card and if need be i can put the gun on there so i dont have to shell out 1300 bucks or more right on the spot. to be honest im kinda leanin toward one of the super x's. sounds like either one would make a good gun. thanks for all your input fellas :D
