Hey guys we are back from the SYC Goose Shootout in Dayton Ohio. Who knew Ohio was that big a state? Long drive. Great time!
We (Team Gerbing)came in second! The winners for the second year in a row were Team Finger Lakes also from PA. I will get the name of the third place team as well. Wind in the 30-40 mph range made gunning the geese a little challenging. The first place team killed 7 geese with 10 shots and we managed 7 geese too but we took 19 shots so lost on the shell count The banquet was great ...I won a decent amount of goodies...I got to meet Sean Hammock, Rusty Heron and Jeff House (they gave me a beating in the calling competition) We got plaques for 2nd, 4 dozen GHG mallard dekes and Avery gun cases...I also took home a plaque for 4th in the Open Goose Calling Competition.
Big thanks to my teammates. Brian Noll, Chris Vogel and my brother Brad Thompson...thanks Big Jeff Weibel AKA Muffin for coming out to film our hunt...hats off to Brian's brother Chad and his company Quigley for providing us with literally the most pimped out hunting vehicle on the planet!!! Ford F-350 Van 4 wheel drive, turbo diesel, gun safe, custom camo paint, winch, safari roof rack, brush guard bumpers and mudder tires. Big thanks to Pipey (Dan Karst) and Gerbing for sponsoring us and paying our entry...not to mention they gave me a blind heat seat to keep me from freezing to death during the bitter cold hunt!!! Also thanks to our spotter Michael Hougan and last bu tnot least Matt Hougan who really put on a great event for a great cause that I was happy to be a part of!!Brian has some pics to post and so do I. My gun cam video is on www.huntingfootage.com and there was a photographer along for the hunt as well so as soon as I get the pics I will share. Silver was fun...gold next year!
