Behind my house in DE we have a river that runs around the edge of our woods but in our woods there is a creek that runs into sort of a pond with a bunch of flooded timber...however there are very few ducks that come in there........the only thing that i can think is that the ducks dont like it cuz there is only water in it on high tide. But I just dont understand why they wont come in there the pond is broken up by the wind and nothing can get in or out of there unless its flying. So basically its a safe haven for the ducks. Just was wondering if anyone had any advice to what i should do.. O and i usually use 12-18 Green Head Gear mallards.

Thanks

Honestly? Go scout and find a pond the birds are working. No sense in spending a day trying to kill birds on a hole they dont go to.

I agree with Kelly. It may look like a good spot to you on the ground, but there is probably something that the ducks don't like about it from the air. Is there alot of trees or tall grass around the edge of the water? I know we all hunt out of blinds that are several feet high and other guys shoot mallards out the A$$ in flooded timber, but there's something there that the birds dont like. And you cant make them wanna go there, no matter how many decoys you got. If they dont use it, they won't come, in any kind of numbers anyway.

The birds do use the pond but it just seems that sometimes they want in and other times they dont

run a spinning wing decoy to help, cross your fingers and see what happens.

Call hard to get their attention and then back it way off when they start to come in, quit calling when they re at 100 yds to start and see how it works.
