I was wondering how many of you sling your shotguns? If you do, which brand do you use? I'm thinking of doing it but I have always been afraid that the sling would get in my way when I go up to shoot. We're huntin outta pits....

i shoot an sbe 2 and i have a final approach sling and i hunt out of just about everything, and i have yet to get it in the way of my shooting. i've never had any problems getting it caught on something, coming up on birds or even interupt myself shooting. but i would ultimatly say think about where you hunt the main reason i got it, is for those long hikes across the fields, with your arms full of decoys, or when i'm in standing water with no where to put my gun. so just take all that into account before you decide, but like i said i've never had any problems.

The fa brands are nice also look at the drake slings they are more wide than the fa, very comfortable sling. When your not using it just clip it off only takes a second and they fold up nicely to fit in your field bag.

The Claw is the best sling I have found on the Market.

Its made of rubber, Max 4 that doesn't fade or come off, and waterproof. No material to tear, come undone, etc.

Plus, me being a bigger guy, it works great because it extends way out there and even with a coat, waders, and whatever else on, I can still cross sling it on my back for packing it in and out of wherever I am hunting.

Why would you need one for a pit anyhow? I use one when I hunt the river, but thats because I am standing in the water and cant rest my gun down in the water, otherwise, the sling comes off if I am in a boat or blind and I can accomplish that with the quick release swivels in probably ab out 45 seconds and its in my blind bag or vice versa, its on the gun and ready to go.

Whatever sling you get, get rotating swivels, quick attach/detach....

Thats my 2 cents

i use a slide on/off sling when i'm packing in and out in a wade hunting situation and no place to put a gun case. otherwise i use a floating guncase with a sling which helps keep the gun dry and clean. Like others, i don't see the need for a sling if your hunting out of a pit all the time.

I use an FA sling and it is very comfortable when on the shoulder for long hikes. Also I have never had any problems with it getting in my way even shooting out of layouts.I carry a few screw in tree stand steps in my bag and when I am hunting some flooded timber areas I screw them into the tree and sling my gun and bag over them and like I said the FA holds up well, I never need to worry about my gun going for a swim.

Its more for walking out to go get a bird. We hunt in flooded rice and sometimes its a pain to be carryin your gun and a bird or birds back, especially when there are more birds trying to work the decoys.

I'll have to give a big +1 to the gun case with the sling on it, for any packing in situation.

I don't mind putting my gun through a little hell and back, but if I can prevent it fairly easy, then I will.

I have a FA Brand case that is padded and floating, has a slot for a goose flag, and a small pouch. Best part is it has an adjustable sling attached to it.

I don't know how many times I've put my gun (with sling on it) inside of the slinged case.

I hike through some thick brush to a creek or pond or something, but when I get there I still want to have the comfort of having the gun on a sling when I am hunting. Best of both worlds...

For waterfowl hunting, I don't use one. I usually hunt from my boat or layout blinds and it's not needed; however, if I had to hike into a flooded timber spot, I would definitely use one.

If I hunted pits, a sling would annoy me, but that's just my opinion.

Turkey hunting is a different story though. I use a Butler Creek "Quick Carry" sling. Once your in position, you can quickly adjust it in order to take out the slack. That way you don't have a pendulum swinging under your gun.

As Ricky said the new Metro Bayou sling is going to be the ticket... detatchable game carrier for when the hunts over is going to be great..i would highly suggest looking into one before making your decision!

if there are birds working is slinged really the place you want your gun? if thats the most common situation to use it i'd say just about any sling would work. its not like your carrying it a long ways. i know the claw brand mentioned earlier are supposed to be non-slip on any kind of clothing. kind of a nice feature around water.

A sling has come in handy so many times. There are so many good brands. Follow the advice that was already given and you can't go wrong.

I have a BPS and I have always used a sling. I have a Browning Excalibier Sling. Its nice to have one if you are working with the decoys and moving them b/c of wind change and be caught off gaurdby a flock with your gun on your back

I saw a braided sling the other day someplace. I thought about having one made to match my lanyard... HINT HINT ...
