We use about 3 - 4 dozen full bodys and set them out in a u or J.

How would you set them up?

What is a x pattern?

Thanks

the group i hunt with usually uses the U shape, and somtimes put them all around our blinds, and have a couple of groups walkin into the spread. we usually use about 2 dozen full bodys and like three dozen shells, and 2 dozen outlaw silouets. hope i helped

We use a scatted family patteen somwhat kind in the x early in the season

meaning hole in front, back and each side for them to land like an X

decoys all over the pit like in center of x

Later in season place them all in family groups away from the blind depending on wind from 2 to 10 per group

10 feet or so apart if nice

on cold days bunch them closer

all over the place

run 15-20dz all fullbodys

I like to place my decoys in family groups as well and kind of random, I spend a lot of time observing geese in fields and on water, and try my best to mimick what I see them do. I like to place gaps in the spread for them to land and try to put these gaps in a good shooting position to the blind. I like to place the decoys and blind so that the wind is at my back and they are landing in front of me.

Good luck, and keep your eyes on the real birds, and immitate them with your spread.

MAX4GOOSER hit the nail on the head.....use your spread to imitate the birds you scouted in the field the day or night before. Keep things looking relaxed.

Now, when we run traffic, we usually set up a modified "J" or "U"...by modified, I mean we leave gaps in the spread, usually 20 - 30 yards wide, with the "kill hole" somewhere around 50 - 75 yards wide. One thing you have to realize, when we run traffic, we are hunting somewhere between 12 - 15 dozen decoys. So, it is easy to run a spread set like that.

With the decoys you have, just set them as close to the way the real birds were when you scouted them.
