Honestly i love the SMM because it is loud and can reach, but it can also calm down when you rally need it. The new DMM is also a very good choice but i have the SMM on my lanyard and killed many ducks. Just my 2 cents.

Id got with a SMM double reed just because its alot louder and you can really reach out and let the ducks hear you. However if i was pot hole hunting it would defanatley be a TR or DMM. Just my personal preference

Can't vouch for the SMM or the TR, but I have a DMM (just switched from double to single reed) and I've had success with it in fields, open water, potholes and rivers. Because of the expense, I initially asked around, like you're doing, and everyone boasted about the DMM being the most versatile call.

After a full season of hunting (made it out 33 days for ducks this year) in the above-mentioned environments, I'll have to agree with the consensus on the DMM. As for the reed configuration, I would order it as a double, but request a single reed wedge and experiment with both. The double has a nice "ducky" quack and is great on the soft end; while, with the single, I can get louder and the feeding chuckle is a little crisper. Also, with the single, I can get just as soft as the double; in the end, giving me a wider sound-range.

I will say, if you wait until your season ends before buying it, you'll be going crazy blowing on the thing for the next 10 months. Foiles, you owe me for this sales pitch

Considering they cost $125, it's a big decision. Good luck.

All three are great calls and allso the wood double reed legend. If I was going to recommend just one call for someone only looking to buy one call, it would be a double reed DMM, the call is awsome. It sounds great and works well in most any hunting situation.
