Just recieved notice that I was drawn for a non-resident waterfowl tag, never been but have always wanted to go, looking for info, websites, or contacts of any kind to make my trip less agrivating and more enjoyable. Thanks for the help.
If you can find it (Got mine at Barnes and Nobel) Wildfowl magazine has their gear guide out. In there is an article on SoDak hunting. Might be a good place to start and usually they have a way to contact the author of the article at the end. I would simply provide it but spent the day on the boat with friends and it got left there.
Wildfowl Magazine (http://www.wildfowlmag.com/) if you look on the right side - where they want you to subscribe, that's what the cover looks like for the issue mentioned.
I always heard Aberdeen was a good area but have never been there.
Don't vouch for any of these guys - just saying there are out there:

Three of us went last year for the first time and had an awesome time.
We went end of oct - into nov. You had to scout and work for your birds but it was a lot of fun. First off, call the parks department and get yourself a map of all the public land and walk in areas. I also picked up a plat book as well. Getting permission for ducks is not tough but pheasants can be more difficult. Next decide if you are going to field hunt or hunt water. We had planned on field hunting but trailer issues caused us to scale back gear so we hunted water and did fine. If you like mixed bag of divers and puddlers water is where it is at. Last choose and area and time you want to go. We hunted NE part of state. Going again this year.
You will get out of it what you put in.

Lived in east central sd my whole life. Lots of great places to hunt. If you plan on coming by yourself my son and I have 1000's of acres of private land that we have done well on every year. Anything from corn wheat small sloughs big waters river systems. IMO opening wknd pheasants last yr we popped limits of mallards and honkers on a fresh cut corn field. Any questions let me know

Andrew how many guys you got hunting with you normally? Usually just my 14 yr old son myself and 1 1/2yr old lab. Also Chris let me know when for sure you are coming and I can try to set some stuff up for you and maybe take a couple days off and hunt with ya.

I guess I don't have a crew down there yet, as this will be my first fall hunting South Dakota, we will see how it goes. We may have to meet up for a hunt or two.

SDmallard, thanks alot I would really appreciate that,it is looking like the 18th through the 28th for me. Our season opens here the 31st, and I would like to be home for that. If you could set something up or even better, try and get free for a couple days that would be great! It sound's like it's just going to be me and my dog.Where about are you located? Looking forward to the trip!!!!! Chris
