Just wanted opinions on this call, since I haven't used a short reed yet, it fits my budget better than a SMH right now. Is it a good beginner call, or is it hard to blow?

BUY THIS CALL!!!! its a great starter call. I picked one up a few weeks ago and its the first time ive ever blown a short reed and its very easy to learn. pick up one of the instructional callin cds or movies from jeff aswell and this will add to the ease. IM the same way u are i wanted to get good on this one before i went out and spent the 150 for the smh but if i keep this pace up ill be buyin one this summer. you wont regret the grinder brother!!

I agree with Smoke, I got this call for Christmas and since I too am new to a short reed have picked it up fairly easy. Also get the 2.0 DVD and get the CD also these two things plus the Meatgrinder will definately make you a better goose hunter.

I have a MG and love it!!! That call kills birds...there's no doubt about it. As for being easy to blow...it's all in the tune. If you pick one up and you think it should be easier to blow...send it in to the shop and have the boys fix'er up.
Great starter call.....great hunting call - honestly, you can't go wrong with it for the sound and the price!!!

I won a Meat Grinder off this forum a little before Christmas. I got it I think around New Years. I already had a SHM, but I still like the call. Am I going to blow it over my SMH, hell no. But I did have a reed crack on me during a late season hunt and there were birds all over. I had no time to switch the reeds. I called a pair right in to my buddy's side. He whacked one of 'em and we hit the other going out. Anyway it takes a littler more air than my SMH, but I still like the call. Its got a flared insert so its every bit as loud as my SMH if you ask me. But I would buy Foiles' goose callin' 2.0 if you're jsut beginning on a short reed.

The Meat Grinder is a great choice for someone starting out, I don't have one myself but have tried a few and am very impressed, I do have a SMH, and in the short timeI have had it it has become my call of choice. Foiles is all you will find on my lanyard these days. Oh and definately pick up the videos or cd's, they will make a world of difference in your calling.

Another thing i find that helps that ive heard many people say includin jeff is always take your calls with you where ever you go. whether it be drivin down the road or what. i know if any of u meet me on the road chances are i got the grinder or the legend in hand practicin. some people talk on their cell phones well i blow a goose and a duck call lol

i heard that if u start blowing a crappy short reed call (not saying the grinder is crappy) that once you get good on it, and graduate to a SMH it is just the easyist thing to blow.. just what i heard.

Meatgrinder is a great call.....it IS all in the tuning...
I guess it just depends on the person tuning it before it leaves the shop...
Mine was tuned a little hard for me when I first got it.....I just retuned it to make it a bit lighter....
Yea, I have a goose call with me EVERYWHERE I go....My girlfriend thinks I'm out of my mind....I blow it in the truck while I'm driving everywhere.....I blow it at my house all the time...my neighbors think I'm off my rocker....they complain about my decoy trailer no matter where I put it.....oh well. Maybe one of these days all the practicing will pay off in a contest.......it pays off in the field though....EVERY DAY!

Ill say that about the meat grinder as well. I had one of them so called we speak the language flutes from primos. I gave up on that thing just didnt like it or the way it sounded. bought me a grinder and im runnin with this thing now. still got a LOT of work to do on it though before i consider myself good. THese foiles calls are the only calls i have ever bought that the minute i walked out of the shop i could sound half way decent on.
