I am thinking of geting a timber rattler or a strait meat mallard. I already have a single reed dead meat mallard and am looking at geting one of the two previously mentioned calls. I hunt all situations from potholes to open corn fields and open water. any feed back would be nice thanks.

For your open water and cornfield I would get a SMM. I have both and they are both great calls. I have my SMM in a Double Reed, extreamly ducky.

I would go with the SMM over open water and cornfields, but if i was hunting a pothole i would definately go with the TR. Both in double reed.

With a DMM....especially a single, you should have the range and volume to hunt open water with it, not to mention pile'm up in the corn!!!! If I were you, I would seriously consider one of two calls here....a TR in a double or a DMM in a double...the TR double reed is ducky as hell, low and raspy...strait old hen from the swamps to the sloughs. The DMM double reed (my go to duck call in just about every situation) is much like the TR double but with a bit more volume....just as ducky, low and raspy....it will just give you a bit more volume should you need it (but you can get just as low and quiet as the TR).
Just a thought!!!!
