Has anyone out there besides Killer Miller killed another 1028 series honker band this year? I was told by someone on another site that 1028 series bands are all reward bands...and millers 1028 was a reward bird.
If this is the case I'm gonna be sick, I really want a reward band, not for the money because it would go back to Ducks Unlimited, but just to have the band (it's a goal of mine along with a neck tube). When I got to this bird his band wasn't closed all that well, I had to squeeze it to make sure it didn't come off so I hope that the band isn't still out there in the field or had fallen off at some other time. So I was just wondering if any of you guys killed a 1028 series banded honker without a reward band with it....and if its true that it was a reward banded bird what should I do ya think?
no not all 1028 series bands are reward bands, thats a standard series band. if all those 1028#s were reward bands the feds would be broke!!!!!. the feds only put reward bands in a selected amount of bands something like one in ten thousand ,but dont quote me there i dont have the exact number. the one Killer Miller got being double banded is the way the feds do it.

Yeah the reward bands are placed randomly on birds. Watched a bander once and every once in a while he would reach into his pocket and pull out a reward band and stick it on a goose. Im not 100% sure but when you called the band in, if it was banded they would of known and would of asked for the numbers on the reward band.

Here in Pa, we shot 7 bands that were all 1028 bands. None of them were rewards. They were banded in Hammet, PA. They were all banded in 2005 and 2006.

no just I did it that night, and if you report it online you sometimes get general info back right there out of their data base....but they only have 90% of their bands in there right now i guess and mine was one of the 10% that wasnt in there.
I banded geese in Michigan last summer for the DNR and there was nothing too random about the reward bands....The bands we were given came on Cut pieces of Garden Hose and the reward bands were automatically placed in synchronism on the tubes. I would say 1 out of 25 or so was a reward band, not all 100$ but reward bands nonetheless. We had no decision making what goose or how many got put on. We just went in order with the protocol and whenever it got down to a reward band, you just put it on.....

I sure wish I was, but since I moved from MI down to Missouri :(, I doubt if I will be back around Michigan around the time they are banding them. I see you are in Grand Haven, the place I worked last summer was the Barry State Game Area near Hastings, MI (Yankee Springs area), they LOVE to have volunteers for their goose banding project, they do a big push on a Saturday and the more the merrier. If you are interested, drop me a PM and I can get you my old boss's info, he is one hell of a guy....

Opening day here in Iowa landed us two banded birds. One had a $100 reward on it. Another guy that I work with shot a $100 dollar band this year also. The bird we got was an 8 yr old bird

Killed a 1028 band today in PA...no reward...other than watching that leg ironed goose bounce off the pasture field!
Went back and checked my lanyard.A goose I killed dec. 19 was a 1028 band. And no reward band was with it.I would say that not all those geese carried reward bands too.
