I am looking at getting a SBE II mostly casuse I looking at getting something more reliable. Than my gold hunter that I have right now. the problem is that it is a new gun this season. But sometimes I have problems with it either not ejecting a shell at all, or it hangs up and doesnt load the shell. Should I stick with my browning and send it back and see what the problem is or go and buy a SBE II for next season?

SBE2 ALL THE WAY!!! I started with a Rem 1100 (I still have it), bought a Beretta Extreama used it one season and sold it for a Benelli SBE2. I personally dont like the bolts on the Browning and Winchester guns, just too heavy, could be your problem in the cycling. I have never had a problem with my Benelli cycling rounds. You wont be disappointed in the trade up to a Benelli.

have ya tore that gun down and cleaned it ???????? i have a gold hunter and a super X2, the only time they ever give me a problem is when there real dirty, clean em up and there good ta go.

PS they come outta the factory full of cosmoline that could be the problem had the same thing when they were new ,always clean a new gun

The only time I've ever had a problem with my Gold is when it gets real dirty as well. I still never had a heavy load shell hang up in it though. I've had problems with light loads at times but never heavy loads. Got my Dad a Nova a last year because he really wanted one and it is not as good as advertised. My one buddy just bought the Extrema II this year and he really likes it. He was going to buy a SBE II but when he checked both guns out he liked the Extrema better. His Extrema is longer than my Gold by about 4 inches so I don't really care for it. I would try cleaning your Gold up and if that doesn't work try out the other guns for size.

I have both and the only thing I like better about my SBE II is that its a little lighter and the forearm fits in my hand a little better. My Browning was not camo'ed so I never had 1 instance where it jammed. Honestly the thing is to pretty to get dirty so I bought the SBE II. Just my .02

Yeah you must of had one hell of a lemon, never had a problem or known anyone with a major problem. The only thing is you have to make sure the rotating bolt is locked or it wont fire, safety feature.

Browning Gold. I always read the forum but never felt I really had to reply till I read this post. Bought one this year and my current lack of a girl friend is directly correlated to the guns presence in my life. Ah well... season is almost over and I can hang up the BG for a while.

iowamigr8er what about last night when it didnt shoot that last shell? did you forget about that....

hunting buddy, it doesnt matter what gun you get, every brand of guns will have its problems eventually. i have seen benellis not fire, remingtons getting hung up and not cycleing shells and i have heard of people having problems with super x2's, golds, and i have had problems with my BPS. i could sit hear all day and tell you the pros. and cons of every gun, but i would say just get whatever you want. just my 2 cents

Yeah I'm sure I had three in, we were seeing how fast it could shoot and I think I may have forgotten to pull the trigger on the last round. It wasnt a issue with cycling because the third round cycled into the chamber. I really think I forgot to pull the trigger, concentrating on shooting fast  .

01-02-2007, 08:54 PM
the thing is I baby my gun I clean it after I shoot it. That means taking the whole gun apart bolt, trigger assembly the works. The last time I cleaned it I even took the trigger assembly apart. The main thing I think is that I want a gun that I dont have to baby and that will still be reliable. I hate cleaning gas guns.

HRK
01-02-2007, 09:05 PM
heres a little tip, i only clean my gun after about 5 boxes of shells , and i dont use regular gun oil or stuff with teflon in it. teflon gets sticky and attracks dirt. i use CRC powerlube and it takes me 5 minutes to clean my gun. i spray the magazine tube and piston and wipe it off, the trigger group i spray it and blow it off lightly with an air compressor and blow out the receiver.
have you ever cleaned the cycling rod in the butt stock????? if not that could be the cause of your troubles, alot of powder residue and grime gets in there, just a thought. also its no differant cleaning an inertia gun verses a gas gun. PS also i dont baby my gold hunter and its wood!! unlike my X2 in wetlands camo they both get thrown around in the boat and blind, heck its a huntin gun still kills the same new or 10yrs old

IowaMigr8tor
01-02-2007, 10:22 PM
First One NO, Second one I have seen before. Tom Knapp does the same tricks as the guy in the video does. The only difference is Tom isnt afraid to dance with fire, looks like your winchester guy only likes pink smoke  .

HUNTING BUDDY

in the top and bottom of your butt pad there is two tiny holes sometimes hard to find about 1/2 to 3/4"" from the top and bottom of the pad right in the center, once you find them take a small phillips and put some dish soap on the screwdriver so it doesnt rip the pad and insert it into the pad and find the screws then remove the screws.once inside it takes either a large regular or 10mm socket to remove the end cap. becarefull because the spring inside has some tension on it!!! remember how things come apart if you dont have your owners manual, clean every thing real good with brake cleaner then lightly oil everything withCRC power lube or WD40 and put it back together.you'll probably find that the action bar and tube are really dirty. if ya have any more questions pm me. PS remember to take the trigger group out first

JUST MY 2 CENTS BUT I HAVE BOTH A SBE I AND A SBE II AND SWEAR BY THEM BOTH JUST THE OTHER DAY I WAS HUNTING IN A DOWN POUR AND MY SBE II WORKED ALL MORNING WITHOUT A HITCH. TWO GUYS THAT I HUNT WITH BOTH SHOOT A BROWNING GOLD AND AFTER SHOOTING MY SBE, BOTH GUYS WANT A BENELLI. I PERSONALY CANT UNDERSTAND WHY BROWNING CHOSE TO MAKE THEIR FLAGSHIP GUN JUST LIKE TWO OTHER GUNS ON THE MARKET AKA SX2-11\87 . I WISH THEY WOULD HAVE JUST UPDATED A TIMELESS CLASSIC , THE A-5.

HRK
01-03-2007, 07:13 PM
the X2 is the same as the browning gold IE:( the same gun and company)the X2 is built off of the browning frame the only differance is the X2 doesnt have the magazine cut off on it. and its built a little more heavier in the reciever for magnum rounds, other than that all parts interchange.its built for the waterfowlers, unlike the gold which is more on the line of an upland gun even though some golds are camo. the 11/87 is not even close to the same build as a X2 or gold. it also has a gas (o) ring ahead of the piston that burns up all the time so carry a spare!!

If you look at our pic's, MOST of those birds were taken by BENELLI! If it is possible you need to shoot both guns. I feel that the Benelli fits my needs the best and after purchasing one and using it in the field it is a hard gun to beat.
Have you guys ever seen the **** they do to glocks? Freeze them, burry them in the sand, drown them, etc. Well you can do all that to my Benelli and it will still out shoot your Winchesters, .

just the standerd extended. sticks out about an inch, the long range tube sticks out like 2 inches, also the long range tube is meant for 3 1/2 ' shells but the standard extended works good with all shells.

There might have to be a benelli and winchester a foot under the Iowa soil, since this is a dependability and durability issue. Here is the way I'm going to look at it: what does it matter if you can hit clay? Because if your gun cant function when it is punch time then it doesnt matter. In the time that I worked at a Gunsmith I never had a Benelli come in with an issue, other manufacturer's, well, we were constantly backed up with them.
I'm sure that I could shoot the same score in clays with my Benelli as I could with my Remington as I could with your X2. Look at my needs in a gun as a waterfowler: Dependable, Light weight, Fast shooting, 3 1/2 in capability, and most important LEFT HANDED. Of which there are really only two manufacturers that meet those criteria: Remington and Benelli. That was a driving force behind my purchase of Benelli.

IOWA

been shootin registered targets for about 10 yrs so i think more like 150-200 thousand in ten yrs, i dunno??? yea i reload at least 10-20 thousand a year, some times i run out and sometimes have some left over depending on what i shoot per year.

ya know whats really weird here is that my best freind of ten yrs is a gunsmith and hees seen them all with problems, i mean every auto made. the biggest thing with a waterfowl gun is keepin it cleen, these guy's were bringing in there guns complaining that there were a POS they were just dirty and the cycling systems were rusty from water gettin inside them , thats why i put a sure cycle system in mine so that i wouldnt never have a problem and never have had one. so iguess we killed that horse didnt we......haha

since your a EMT/fire fighter i'll clarify the term (basement saver) if you havent heard it before: sorry we couldnt save your house but we did save the basement!!!!.......hahahahahahahahaha

IowaMigr8tor

Thats nothing, you should hear all the **** around the station that gets said. Its a way to vent stress  or at least thats what they said when I was taking my EMT. But no there are alot more explicit things said round the station, trying to keep it kinda clean you know.

Ha, basement saver, more like Alarm Chaser. You have to have fires to save peoples basements. We get our fare share of fires, sometimes they are few and far between and you wonder if your radio and pager are working when it has been days since it has toned out. We have been very fortunate this year and have only lost the battle in one commercial fire and it was a goner from the beginning, you couldnt get enough water to dump on that thing to put it out. But yeah with all the new security systems and fire protection systems most of our call end up being false alarms, kinda frustrating in the middle of the night when you are trying to sleep .

hey Iowa I didnt know you are a firefighter. (I am new here just learning) Thats cool, animals I can look at their bodly organs but humans I just cant do. your a better man than I am even though you can only save basements  jk.

geeze that must be nice the new place we moved to is 3 blocks from the fire station and the place we moved from the sub station was 1/4 mile away.also were we moved from and to are both on the highway so its sirens day and night :?

IowaMigr8tor
01-04-2007, 11:10 PM
Well thats sucks, in our city night time response we try to use the siren at intersections only that way people don't get woke up.
Umm as far as looking at other peoples innards, I dont have to do it very often, I am primarily Fire. But you just have to put it behind you, Its not your Emergency, you are just the one there to help the person and you are no good if that gets in your way.

barry come on over and well put those benellis to rest in the mud. im not a die hard benelli guy like 2 other guys i know (iowamig8er and killer miller). but i bet if you barried my BPS in the mud i could take it out a year later and it would shoot like it was brand new

Al, if I recall, the your browning PUMP GUN jammed up one day when me and derek's dirty Benelli AUTOLOADERS cycled all our shells. Remember that? Because I sure as hell do.

Oh and BTW, when I finally did clean my 4 year old SBE (it hadnt been jamming or cycling slow, I just knew it had to be dirty) I literally dumped the dirt out of the action! In fact, my dad was pissed off at me because I wasnt taking care of it because I had bought it with my own money and wasn't taking care of it. The way I saw it was how can you fix something that isn't broken? Why clean a dirty Benelli? Benelli's slogan should be "Ya don't even gotta clean 'em!"

Ohhh and thanks Huntersridge and Smoke on the compliments on our kills this year. We did pretty good. Hopefully kill a few more honks. I figured me, Al, and Derek killed about 200 ducks and around 50 honkers this fall. 8)

Al, if I recall, the your browning PUMP GUN jammed up one day when me and derek's dirty Benelli AUTOLOADERS cycled all our shells.

Reminds me of the piece of **** Nova I bought my dad for Christmas last year. I have a 14 year old Mossburg that pumps faster than that gun. I've did everything possible to try and get that gun to pump. Absolutely brand new looking and if it were mine I'd trade it for a case of Budwiser. It's almost impossible to get two shots of if you are shooting a double in clays. You have to wait after each shot before pumping or the damn thing jams. I have to agree with Barry any gun can have problems no matter who makes them. I've just never had any problems with my Browning in the field.
