i was hunting some ducks over water and then i saw geese, the first cluck wasnt loud at all but it echoed over that water like crazy - i've herd of pointin the call at the ground, example, the insert is pointin the boat or blind bottom...anyways how do you prevent that echo???

Try to soften up a bit, by blowing a bit softer, may have to retune your call. You may also wan't to try a wood SMH or Market Hunter, they are more mellow than acryllic. Some echo is ok, a real bird produces some. good luck and let us know how it works.

Choke down on the call more. That will give you a deeper, softer sound. It will sound like a older gander because it will be deep, but I like the sound my SHM makes when I choke down on it.

I agree with Killer Miller. Just choke down on the call and it will sound really good over the water and it won't echo. We kill a lot of geese over the water and I've even used my Showtime a couple of times.

i dont think the echo really hurts much but thats just me i hunt a-lot ove open water lakes and i seem to do pretty good with like they said choken down on it and maken that deeper sound. the first hunt with my SMH we killed 6 honkers in about an hour on an open lake and they were maple leafen to get in. so i was convenced that day that i truly loved that call

I hunt 2 lakes where i am for geese and i mainly use my market hunter. A quieter call and when i call, i will direct it more almost strait up or turn into the bank and call that way. I hunt from the bank of both lakes and it seems to work pretty well either way. I almost always get an echo anyhow. And the only sound i make is a cluck and 2 goose sound. I have noticed the feeding growl and moans don't do so much over water as they do on land. Could be just me, i don't know.
