I am having trouble finishing spex into the decoys. I have only been successful a couple of times, although I can get them to 80 yds every day. I am still relatively new at calling them. I have my spec decoys off to the side of my Canadas, and I have even tried using lots of snow/blue wind socks along with my Canada spread. Flagging has helped, but not has not made them finish but only once.

Any good tips or help would be appreciated as they are a reltively new bird in our area.

I'm not sure i can help you much, most people i know have trouble finishing specks, but then i don't really know anyone that sets up just to, kill specks, I know a few guys that kill some with just Canada decoys, but they have out a lot of decoys, I have filmed and watched a lot of specks mixed in with Canadas, I broke about 10 or 12 off a flock of snow geese the other day, so they even do fly with them, Most of the ones i kill are either singles or pairs, But i rely more on calling than on the decoys at this point since i don't have many speck decoys, Next year i plan to just set up for some specks sometime to learn more about how to kill them, but from my dealings they are a very wary bird, They do however at times respond to a call very good, But what i do is set what few decoys i have mixed around in the Canadian decoys, i don't set them all togather, I have had a few just bow up and fall in to the call but, for the most part they just circle and look, i try to call to their back, or when they are on the side turn much as you would a duck then i don't call much when they are over me or just high inside the decoys, i have had better luck using the 3 note , i do 3 notes high and as fast as i can do the 3 notes low, i am no authority on killing specks by no means, but it works sometimes, Hopefully with all the people on this forum, we will run into someone that knows more about how to consitently kill specks, Good luck and if you have any pointers post them up we are always looking for good advice..
