I Just got into the short reed about 2 months ago and luckily enough they had this showtime 40% off so naturally i decided that nows the perfect time to learn. but i pulled the call apart and the guts fell out now i tried getting it back together and i just cant get it right again, any tips would be sweet i dont really wanna send it in to the shop but if i have to i will. Thanks _ Justin
first off make sure the reed just drops into the tone board, it probably has a shaved reed so that end sticks out of the guts ,you can tell by looking at the reed where its rough thats the shaved part and that goes up.when you put the reed and guts in leave about 3/8" to 1/2" of the reed showing and then start tuning from there. a very little at a time. once ya get it close take a ink pen and go around the guts where it goes into the insert for a future referance point and fine tune it from there.

You need to make the reed on the call just barely fold into the tone channel. The ammount of reed that you expose is personal preference, the more reed out the more air it will take and the deeper it will be. The less reed out a more high pitched and easier it is to blow. I will take some pics of my showtime's and SMH's reeds and post um up in a little bit.

I had the same thing happen with my Market Hunter, took it apart to clean it and now i cant get it to sound right. Luckily though i have a pro-staffer who lives nearby so im taking it to him to fix it. Must be a trick to gettin them back sounding good. luke

There is really no trick to it, it just takes some practice and know how to tune a call. It took me a couple of seasons just to start trying to tune my own calls. Glad I know how now because I can fix any problem and I can adjust my call to fit any situation or person.

Oh man i thought i'd never get it!! but i finally did! its neat how the slightist adjustment will change the tone so much. What does shaving the reed do to it exactly? thanks guys! _ Justin

Shaving the reed makes it thinner. The thinner the reed the easier it is to fold into the tone channel. Also makes it sound alot better.

ya forgot to mention it makes it roll over (break) quicker.....
