I just started Filming with a Canon ZR500 mini DV digital camcorder, it does really well, and it cost right around 300, i bought a sony vegas editing software, and can do some pretty pimp things with it, but the problem im having is videotapeing takes away from calling and shooting...also we hunt from a pit a lot, and its really hard to get good kill shots from inside the pit...but the more we layout hunt the more good footage im gonna get....the other problem im having is remembering to put the call down and pick the camera up........

Sorry I have only worked on one video so far. Everyone seems to like it. It is kind of jerky but the bouncing makes up for the jerkyness.

A smaller camera than the XL2 or XL1S would be a PD170 which is great in low light the footage you can pick up 10/15 min. before shooting time is un real. A good website to look at and price these kinds of things is www.bhphoto.com

The PD170 (sony) is more than I care to spend at around $3,000. Any other ideas guys?

You'll have to spend in the thousands most likely if you want a quality camera. XL2 is the way to go.

the Canon ZR500 which Dropeminde has is prolly your best bet for the money. It still takes good footage and has the editing capabilitys as the expensive ones!!!

Yeah theres a bunch of effects, and theres like 12 fades, plus with the editing software i bought for 90$s, theres unlimited possibilities on video editing, transitions, background, Text, fades, music, voice over, adding still image gallary.....anything you want....
Dead Meat....as soon as i figure out how or where to post Vids, i will...but i dont think Photobucket allows for ohhh around 120megs of space...lol which just one of my short clips were...like 9 mins. lol
If any of you know where i can post them i would love to know....

Yeah im not so much worried about the effects, I have "Adobe Premier Pro" which is a pro movie making software that we use where I work, I am just looking for good quality movies. I would prefer to just use the camera to shoot, and do all the edditing in Premier Pro.. Its just so hard to know what you are getting becasue its not like you can go out and try the camera out.. ya know....

Their are several I have run a sony beta, sony dsr400, xl-2, pd170, gl2.
These are all listed from top dollar to budget cost. Canon has just put out a xl-h1 which is a HD camera in an xl body.
If you want quality editing software buy any final cut pro edition. If you have the bling get the 5th edition in HD.
Here is the bigest thing you either have to hunt or film you can't do both. Remeber if you don't film it you can't edit it later.

To add to Brians comments...if you plan to do anything with your footage dont use on camera effects. If your planning on doing video to sell dont plan on doing it with $90 software. Final Cut, Premier Pro or Canopus Edius (my fave) run into the thousands....with plugins you can easily by 5-6 thousand dollars in software. Theres a reason that DVD's cost $20.
Cameras: I wouldnt film with less than a GL2 or XL1. XL2 and/or PD series cams are the standard. Remember the smaller the cam the shakier the footage. Smaller cams also require external mics for decent audio.

You can find them around $2800 new. They were $4000 when they came out a couple years ago.
