O.K. I know goose hunting in a light rain is always great but what about a steady or even heavy rain, is it worth getting everything all wet or is it better to wait until the rain dies off! Its getting late in our second season and I have yet to kill a bird and getting real desperate due to the fact they are calling for some more rain this weekend! Thanks

It all depends on the feeding pattern of the geese. I've had good shooting in rain and I've also had no shooting in the rain. I'd say pouring rain, don't bother. Light to medium rain wouldn't be bad provided the geese want to feed. It seems like right now in our area there is plenty of grass for the geese and they don't have to scrounge for tidbits of grain as they would if we'd had some heavy weather. I've talked to lots of hunters in our area and very few are having a good season. As in real estate, LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. That is the key this year. Very cold weather makes the geese want to feed heavier. We haven't had any of that this year. Good luck anyway. As I say, you can't kill them if you don't go out.

I went out in all that rain and fog on monday, and we still managed to put some birds on the ground, what i have learned about the rain is, you get wet lol, no, when you are in the rain and fog, its all about those windows when it stops, we had an hour gap inbetween fog and rain on monday, and the birds moved like crazy, we even had a lot of birds fly over in the light rain but it seemed they knew where they were going, but when it stopped and we could actually get the flag in the air, without throwing water on us, we managed to get a lot of birds to take a hard look at the decoys, and managed to get some shots off at some.....so its all about how bad you wanna wait for maybe that thirty minute window when the rain stops and the birds move....thats just my $.02

I agree with goosegetter......
even when I know I'm better off sitting at home......I just can't help myself...
I HAVE to go....I HAVE to be there.......I don't know the meaning of "giving in" or "giving up"
I give it the full court press the whole way........
you can't kill'em from the couch...and you can't learn anything there either....except how to be a "quitter"
GAME ON!

I have goose hunted in late September early October in very heavy rain in a morning hunt. I knew the birds were in this field and lots more in the area. We laid the SMACK DOWN on those geese, we limited out actually. And let me tell ya, I was SOAKED from head to toe but I didn't care. It was even thundering a bit too that morning.
As the guys said LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. I scouted his field for almost 3 days before I hunted it studying every hill, knoll, crevice ,which way the liked coming in and what time every morning the started to show up at. It defintly paid off. Thats my experience in the rain anyway.
A good friend of mine always says'' Your not going too see anything if you are not out there'' and who really wants to stay home on the weekend when it is Hunting season, not I. I'm out hunting every possible chance possible even when the weather sucks. :D

If any of you all are worried about getting wet...get that drake waterfowl jacket...the 4-1 wading coat is amazing...I was hunting in arkansas and it was pouring all morning.... The jacket doesn't feel waterproof but I didn't feel a drop of water get on anything but the outer layer of my jacket... its good stuff... that was my christmas present.. :D

I wish i still had the delema of deciding to hunt in the rain or not! but all i see these days is no snow and barly enough ice to fish. Go get em while you still can cause its more depressing to sit at home wishing you were hunting! _ Justin
