I have been hunting with goose shells & wanted to add some full body decoys into my spread. We have tried adding floater, to give a more 3-d look, but I think we should add some full bodies. How many do you think we need to add to the spread, & where should they be placed. Do you think it is a must to add full bodies? We hunt on Long Island New York, & our early season is a week away.
Thanks,
mike

its not absolutly nessecary, but it can help. Shells are nice because they are alot easier to haul and carry in. So how many depends on how and where you hunt.
If you want to get some, Id think about getting a Avery harvester pack, and if you get them from the right place, they usually include a slotted bag for them.
Try a 1/2 dozen out and see how you like them, if you do you can always pick up a few more.
As far as where to place them, it depends on what your spread looks like. I tend to place my most realistic decoys close to where I want the geese to land. That way they can focus on them.

It is not a must at all but they are obviously nice to have.We kill geese and ducks over real-geese silo's and shells. However the # you buy depends on how much $ you have or want to spend. If you are just looking for a few I also agree on the harvester pack route. It wll give you a few different styles, in addittion to the harvester packs you might want to get (depending on how big your spread is) a couple looker 4 packs.Probably one of the cheapest places you will find some is at Rogers unless you have a store close by.I also agree on placing your best decoys were he birds will be landing because those are the last ones they are going to see hopefully.I know you said you use shells but do you ever get them off the ground with stakes sometimes that helps as well as gives your spread some motion.

Fullbodies are nice looking,i have plenty of them. They are not needed though. I dont think you will kill anymore will fullbodies than you would with shells. Im still considering getting rid of all mine and using silos and shells. Out of all the goose fields i have im only allowed to drive in 2 fields out of around 10 early goose fields.Fullbodies are a pain in situations like that.

I have 3 dozen FA Shells and i just bought 2 Harvester packs from FA last year. I would put the shells in family groups in the early season, adding one or two full bodies in each group of shells and the rest i would place either walking into the spread or in a "heavy feeding" group. This worked really well for me. one harvester pack of FA full bodies is 179.99 but i think they are worth it. If you have low flying geese nothing IMO looks more realistic. I have had geese land in my spread before but is seemed more were interested in taking a closer look once i added my full bodies. Go see which ones look best and give them a shot! Good luck this year
