Has anyone had experience with training Chesapeakes? We were given a Chocolate/Chessy Mix pup and I've been told that Chessies can be a handfull. Input?

I trained my Chesapeake myself. It wasn't the easiest, but it wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. Chessies, in my opinion, are a bit more sensitive, than Labs. The may seem tough and pig-headed, but you just need to understand how they learn. That will come with working with them, you'll start to see the little things click, and then you'll know. HRK was on point with Wolters book. I used it as a guide and followed it and his basic methods. Payed off well. Good luck.

Yeah I've got Water Dog and I am going to get Gun dog as soon as I can. I have a good friend that trains Bird Dogs and Duck Dogs. He told me he'd give me pointers and tips and even let me run her at his place so he could see what she's doin.
Thanks guys

Gotta be one of the easiest dogs to train "with a 2X4" .

Nice part about the Chessie is they forget the mistakes you make with them to and can be harder to ruin then like you can ruin a lab.

My lab is the biggest wussy in the world been beat up by 3 toy breeds so far. I could not force fetch her becasue she would just roll over and submit so I needed professional help.

So there are plenty of good things of having that chessy :D
