As some would know, when you are the only person in your group of hunters who is able to get a note out of a goose call, do you find some times when the geese are 50-60 yards out and you let off the call and you find yourself reaching for the gun they tend to shy away. This only has to do with geese that your calling at nop the ones that come in on there own. Decoy placement is not the problem i guess it is unatural when gesse are threatening other gesse they dont stop. Some you have to call all the way. lets here what ya got ta say.

When a flock of geese is quite it is a bad thing. So if you stop calling the incoming geese think something is wrong and will try and shy off. Try some subtle clucks, moans, and feeding growls as they get into the finishing range. Right before I grab my gun I am usually growling with the occasional cluck while Im looking for my gun and the bird that I'm going to shoot.

But see that is what im trying to say. I have to atleast take one hand off my call to grab my gun and then my call doesnt sound like a goose because the proper backpressure is not there, but thanks for the advice. Im just asking if anybody has experienced this before. It sucks being the only caller sometimes because when its your turn to shoot this happens sometimes.

Well I dont take my hands off the call very much. Wait til their locked at 30yds then you can take your hands off and grab your gun:lol:. What are you hunting out of? I hunt out of layout blinds and the gun always rests right next to my thigh so I can grab it quickly. Been in your situation before and it does suck.
keep callin till there in yer face, drop the call and grab yer gun. sometimes im the only caller to cause the other guy's suck!!! i mean really really bad, el cheapo $15.00 walmart specials sounds like a sick as hell goose with a cold!!!!! and still we shoot decent numbers of birds

its kinda like hunting by yourself is how i see it. tell the people with you if they're going to land let them land. and just as they start to land put the call down and grab the gun and say kill em boys. like tonight i had a single come in and i called till he had his feet down and about to land grabed the gun and shoot his a$$.

Chris C. I have a suggestion that will make you a little quicker on your gun draw: While hunting in a layout blind, instead of having my gun resting next to my body, I put the butt of my gun right in between my pecks. Instead of having to drop you call, grab the gun from next to you....all you gotta do is drop the call and your hands are basically right on your gun.
I am one to call the birds all the way in until they "perfect" for everyone or until it looks like they are gonna bug out. I normally am the guy calling the shots, so I of course get a little bit of a head start anyways. But every bit helps, especially if its windy cause the birds get out so quickly after the blinds open with guns blazing. This should make you able to call for a bit longer and still be able to get the gun on your webbed feet prey. :D Hope I helped.

Killer Miller is right. That's exactly how I do it. Keep the gun on my chest w/ the barrel resting on the rest of my blind. Your call is not going any where if it's on your lanyard. Good luck!

Yup, I just kinda learned that this year. In fact, I dunno if the rest of my crew knows I do that.....so shhhhh. That way I always get first rip, ohh and usually something falls. 8)
Mnbenelli, nice gun set-up by the way. That's exactly what Derek (iowamigr8tor) shoots, except he's a freakin' lefty. I'm thinkin I want an extended PM, but I prolly don't need it.
