I was just wondering what loads (shot size, length, etc) you all use when hunting wood ducks in the early season?

Early in the season i use #3 shot on ducks, and midway through the season switch to# 2 shot to drive through the fat.

actually it was about a year before that as china, india and other developing countries have increased manufacturing and demand for raw materials like lead, steel, and copper has increased and driven those material prices up it has reflected in ammunition prices.

I will usually use no bigger than #3's. But the best thing to do is to pattern your gun. if it shoots 2 3/4 #2's better than 3.5 inch #6's than go with that. Its all about the pattern, but for woodies you are always better off with smaller pellets with an improved choke, better chances to hit those flighty sons of guns. One #6 pellet in the right spot will bring em down!

i shoot pretty much 3 in number 2's at all ducks but have been know to drop some woodies with 3 1/2 T shot :D didn't have a problem with those either lol

12 ga 3.5" #3 at 1500 or better fps....can't kill them too dead!!! I use this load on puddle ducks all year long and it just hammers them! If I am hunting divers, I use nothing less than #2 in a HEVI-Steel or or HEVI-Metal this year...or a #3 HEVI-Shot - all 3.5".
I hate cripples!!!
