I am relatively new to waterfowl hunting so I started simple with my calling. For geese I have a Straight Meat Honker and for duck I have the Dead Meat Mallard. That's it! Nothing more! Only two on the lanyard.

I am now ready to add another goose and duck call to my arsenal for two reasons. First I want to make sure I have a back-up at all times, and I also want something a little different, different sound, different tones.

That being said I am looking for advice. I don't want to buy a call only to later determine it has almost an identical sound to what I'm already using. I would prefer to stick with two more Foiles calls, but it isn't a necessity.

Tell me what would have different sound that would complement my calls.

I like the straight timbers. Gets real quiet and is easy to control. Can't really give advice on the goose side of things. Still working on that myself.

goose call u cant go wrong with the HPH or even the Showtime. HPH is a higher pitch faster call than the SMH. Showtime can just about do about any range.

as for duck call u might check out the strait timber or timber rattler. in a double reed both are deadly.

Definitely a Timber Rattler or strait Timber for the Duck call. As far as a goose call, the HPH is a good one, If you are hunting wide open fields a showtime would be ok as well both of these calls will be quicker than your SMH unless you have them tuned really stiff. And don't forget the market hunter, its got a nice sound to it. If you are wanting to try something besides foiles, the Grounds Super Thang is a pretty sweet sounding call.

I would get ahold of John Taylor at Bay Country Calls and get a Shore Thing. He can tune it how you like. Give him a call.

For ducks either a Strait Suzy or a Timber Rattler. Both of those calls are just strait duck. I have both a Srait Suzy and Timber Rattler on my lanyard at all times during the season. For goose if I were you I would go with a Market Hunter in Walnut or a High Plains Honker in Flamed Hedge. Both calls look great and sound incredible. Just my .02 and good luck on your decision.

Im not a staffer but from the foiles line my favorite is a hedge showtime. If your looking for a little differnt sound you might try a cackler. Its nice to have a higher pitched call sometimes like a cackler and the high pitched sound works on big honkers very well at times. Sometimes that high pitch is all they want to hear. My 2 cents

Straight timber is a great beginner duck call (or straight suzy) Strait Meat Honker is a great goose call for the beginner also.
