View Full Version : poly vs. acrylic
I have several very good acrylic calls "mostly Foiles"
I have been playing around with some poly calls that have some super sounds to them. I have noticed when it is cold the calls do not sound as good as the acrylic ones. What are the other advantages of acrylic over poly?
Thanks

acrylics are going to be louder, crisper, and cleaner then a poly call. poly is basicly plastic and that absorbs some sound, and acrylic is more dense so you get a better sound

What Drake Whistle said. the reason your Poly Carb doesnt sound as good in cold weather as it does warm is that the thinkness of the plastic is effected. The Acrylic is thicker and therfore doesnt shrink as bad or as noticible as a poly carb. The other advantage is the warrantee on them, with foiles All acrylics are lifetime (less the reeds, 1 year) where as the polys are only 1 year. You will also notice that over time the Polycarb looses its crisp sound and frankly doesnt sound as good. I dont know how much $$$ I have spent over the years on Walmart Special Duck and Goose calls and seemed to throw them away every year. The Acrylics, along with a broke in set of gut, is a deadly combo and always sound great.

same here
also poly is injected molded and acrylic is turned out of raw stock
