Super nova is light and an all around good gun I would go with that
either one im not partial on pump guns, i do own a nova and its a great gun for a pump. infact the mossbergs and browning BPS are also good guns to. just stay away from the el cheapo off brand imports there a POS and only good for boat ancors. hope this helps

what is the difference between the regular nova and the super nova?
the super nova has the new comfort tech stock and the regual nova doesnt.

the nova was built around a 3.5" chamber while the 870 wasnt. The 870 would be a great 3" gun but for 3.5" go with a nova. The comfortec doesnt seem to do anything, kicks just as much.

the 870 super mag is a 3.5" gun though

I have an 870 Super Mag SPS-T. Its the special purpose turkey model. Yeah, it's a 3.5 and it does kick, but it's never failed me and shoots like a dream. I can't comment on the nova, as I've never shot one, but a buddy of mine has one and he really likes it as well. I just don't care for them because of the way they feel in my hands. I love my SBE though...go figure.

The Super Nova is the SBE2 if it was a pump. It has Comfort-tech and the larger trigger guard.

My father in law has both and don't take the remington out of the case anymore. Why I dont know but he only put maybe 20 rounds through it. I personally like benelli over remington but i never really got to try a remington to make a solid choice. I would go with benelli since i shoot an M2 but the remington has alot of options for stocks, barrells etc. But if your willing to put out a few more dollars go with the super nova. Shoots like a champ and is pretty easy to cycle the 3 1/2's.

WOW!!! You're comparing a Remington to a BENELLI!!!
BENELLI HANDS DOWN.
WOW!!! You're comparing a Remington to a BENELLI!!!
thats like comparing a 410 to a 10 gauge

Speaking of 10 gauge, Benelli needs to get on that. I would have one in a heartbeat, just for the thrill of having a 10 gauge.
WHY?????
with todays loads 12 gauges kill just as good as a 10ga, except for that awsome KABOOM a 10 gauge makes. like a frickin canon going off

Drake, im just givin ya some $hit.
But on a serious note, are you wanting a 3 1/2 inch gun? Im not sure on the price difference between a 87o Super mag vs. a Nova, but I don't think it is much. Because I think the 'Nelli would def. worth a little extra $$$. Does anyone know prices on Nova's and 870 Super Mags?

I am a pump gun guy, I prefer them for some reason, I often threaten to buy a new autoloader, but in the end decide to stay with the treid and true pump. now on to the question you ask. I have had pump guns from all of the major makers, winchester, mossberg, browning, benelli, and remington. I have used Ithacas as well. After having and using them all, their are only two you will find me using in the blind. The Browning BPS, or the Benelli Nova. I have two Nova's a Max-4 and aBlack, and love these guns. My BPS is in 10 gauge, and it is my favorite goose gun. I know you can pretty much get the same load in a 3.5" 12 as in the 10, but the 10 just seems to shoot it better, with better patterns, and shot strings.
My vote for your choices: Benelli NOVA

The 870 SM will run you about $700 give or take and the Supernova is right around that as well.
I have shot both guns and I would say hands down go with the Benelli. THe 870 will absolutely beat the ever livin S*** out of you with 3.5", whereas you can install the recoil reducer on the Benelli and shoot them all day long.
You ought to try to find one of hte original Novas, I own one never had a problem. And you can find them brand new for around $400 in camo.
The recoil reducer will run you around $60 but it is well worth it. I use my Nova for turkey, shootin 3.5" #4 with Gobblin Thunder it makes the shot so much nicer on your shoulder.

Even though I live and die by Remington, I have heard that the version they have of the 3.5 is not the best. Personally, I've killed birds with a 3" gun for 20+ years.. Buy a 3" 870 and spend the rest on decoys. just shootin the breeze

Apparently, I'm a little late to this dance. Let's not forget that the Remington 870 is the best selling shotgun of all time, and for good reason. I realize there's a Benelli cult here but I shoot an 870 and will continue to do so. It works well, fits me great, and takes abuse. I'm not sure that just because Benelli is on the logo of the Nova it would function better than the 870. Both are probably about as tough as pump guns get. I have heard that Novas develop a front end rattle that gets pretty noisy as well, but haven't seen it firsthand. In any case, get the gun that fits you best. Go handle each one in the store, does one come to your shoulder easier? I'd say fit should be the determining factor here, because both guns will without a doubt will serve you probably better than you expected.

Go with the Nova. My son (15yrs old) had his in the field every weekend (full of mud) and it never missed a beat. My Mossburg 835 on the other hand was awful, jammed 3 times. Im buying a Benelli !!!!
