i want to do the same thing. but i dont even know where to begin. i love doing woodwork and stuff like that. i have a few ideas up my sleeve. i will post pics when i get done to.
Also is it illegal to us another call manufacters ideas. for example in lynch mobb calls they have a metal piece that holds the guts cause it doesnt expand and contract.

yeah guys i to have a lathe and have turned some calls it isn't hard to get the barrel the insert is the hard part especially the tone board you really need to get a tone board jig made and they aren't cheap either i have been able to make one that worked but good luck

im a machinst and i have a cnc lathe at work. i bought a piece of acrylic and designed a goose call. made a program and cranked em out. they sound really good. i even got the "o" rings in there. i bought the guts from sportsmens wharehouse for 9 dollars. the guts are bill saunders and foiles. they both sound good. once my work load slows down i plan on making a jig for the guts so i'll have my own. its kinda fun makin calls. if i ever get my own guts i plan on trying to get them in my local sporting good stores. have fun, i know i did ecspecially when i made my first goosey sound!!

Wow!! Never thought I'd see this thread on this forum. My huntin' buddies make calls, have their own website set up, have their own forum set up...all from the back yard and a lathe. They mostly concentrate on wood calls, ... have a poly call that is being mass produced in China, but most of all their calls are meat calls. They both can tune calls for any type of caller...single or double reed, duck or goose. Check 'em out - www.wingstingercalls.com

dropeminde,
there pretty white. but so is ivory. i guess its in the eye of the beholder.
woodiewacker,
im guessing your idea of a jig is different from mine. so im not really sure what you mean. if your asking if you can send me guts or reed assembly and have me design a call around that than ya i probably could.
i hope this thread doesnt ruffle any feathers with foiles. i dont think thats anyones intention.
theres always the possibility.
i cant say how kelly or jeff feels about this. so heres my thoughts and comments. im 100 percent foiles no ifs ands or butts. if you guy's want to make you own calls and sell them thats fine. my suggestion do it behind closed doors.................

my intentions were never to sell calls here. i just posted a reply to this thread and people took interest. im a foiles guy too. i agree 100% with hunters ridge. it should be done behind closed doors.

I think its good to be open to anything for hunting. After all, hunters are just one huge community. I don't think anyone on here is trying to one up Foiles calls, if anything I think it would be a great hobby in the off-season. I think everyone who uses this Forum agrees that Foiles calls are the best made and personal favorite call of everyone here.
BTW Hunters Ridge..."100% Foiles no if's, and's, or butt's?" ...What's with the 2 Big Guy's Best calls hanging on your lanyard? LOL...I'm just kidding with you man...don't take it seriously!!!

FYI
in case you didnt know mike keller AKA (Big Guy's Best) and jeff were very dear freinds, jeff and mike created these call together that started the short reed craze. also BGB uses the foiles gut system. therefore the are the same call only differant exterior shapes. as for the duck calls i dont know if jeff helped with the design or not. i wear these in memory of mike keller who has past away. and they are soon to be set aside for display and replaced with more foiles calls..........no offence takin 8)

May everyone remember the Big Guy Mike Keller!
I have retired a few of mine. But one I just can't give up. And I honestly think Mike would rather have it ringing then sitting on a shelf anyway.
