Hey me too!! I'm 17, one more year of junior. I've only been goose hunting for 2 years, and although I'm not the best, I sure beat the hell out of everyone in my group for goose calling.

Hey boys. If you guys are the best, you must be tooting on SMH's!! I've been blowing one for about a year and half and Im no pushover!! But about contests, Iowa State Calling Competition. Burlington, Iowa (southeast Iowa). February 18th and 19th. Im not sure but I think the duck is on Sat. and the goose is on Sunday. Dont quote me on that though. Im 19 and would be tooting with the adults. Im not sure if I wanna get up on that stage or not?!

Killer...I would say if you have practiced and you have a decent routine that you have down (hopefully just under 90 seconds :) ), I would say go for it and get up there and blow. Don't be scared, no one will ridicule you, you have to devirginize yourself from it sometime if you are serious about getting into it. You may as well gain the expereince and hear some great callers while you're at it. Get back there and talk to those guys before or after the deal. Most guys are glad to help you any way they can, (look for foiles guys first!!) I may go up for the duck...tryin' to get that weekend figured out w/ the female foiles in my life..if ya catch my drift. I may have "prior" engagments that I gotta go for :)! Anyway..if I head up I'll let ya know!

Migrator00, thats the thing. I dont really have a routine. I've never called in a competition so I dont have one. I do know how they work though. I saw some off of Goose Callin' 2.0 I get really stage fright! For example, I had a presentation for my speech class today. And I totally blew it. I mean, i didnt even say some of the stuff I was going to say. I dunno though. We'll see what happens. I know I would just get smoked!

Well my question to you is...did you practice that speech so you could do it in your sleep??? If you're like me..i'm sure you didn't. You need to get a base to stand on first ( a routine ). Then practice that deal till you wanna blow your brains out, and remember, it doesn't all happen in one day. I would at least go and listen to some of these callers..it's usually a stacked deal up there! Good luck

If you know to know what to do in contest i would check out dedgoose.com. They have video files of kelley powers, tim grounds, jeff foiles, zink, and everybody. It helped my 2-man routine a lot. Stick with it. To loose the stage fright you should call in font of everyone you know to get used to people. Best of luck.
