If it smells, it needs washed. As far as dirty cloths keeping you warmer, it is no myth. With our Fire fighting bunker gear, dirty gear is dangerous. The dirt absorbs heat and makes it harder for your gear to protect you from heat. I know your hunting clothing isnt subject to the same heat as my gear so I'm sure it has no effect. But to answer the question of myth or fact, it is fact.

I think it keeps you warmer because bacteria, germs and disease put off heat. Wash that stanky stuff man. I dont wash my coats or bibs till end of season but anything else gets washed after i wear it. I'd rather be cold than stink.

My camo pants, shirts, fleeces, liner socks, and wool socks get washed when they start to smell just like my fellow group member iowamigr8tor said.
As far as washing my big Remington max-4 bibs and other heavy hunting coats...they get washed once a year. After season. They don't ever smell (well maybe like dead ducks and geese from their blood  ) because all my "liner" clothing takes all my sweat and BO. So that stuff gets washed, and the heavy stuff gets washed once a year. It's kinda like mudding a blind, except clothing.   As if it matters what I'm wearing, since we're always in blinds. Im gonna be sitting in a warm and toasty pit blind here in about a week in CO.
Last yr. I hunted 50+ days and I only washed my gear once! Mainly cause I was lazy, but also They was quite comfortable.I hunted about 39 dys. this yr. so far. But I did the same thing, only washed em' once. Undergarments included. They're quite cozy once there broke in like that

I concur with Kelly.....wash that nasty stuff!!!! I don't wash my bibs and/or coats until the end of the season, but my Under Armour, Drake Union Suit, Drake Wader-Tec Turtleneck, t-shirts, jeans, pants, etc. all get washed on a fairly regular basis.

Don't wash the coat. We don't use bibs over in Washington that offten mainly waders and the rain takes care of my coat. As far as the rest of the stuff like shirts socks under armour, about every other trip out.
