i shot a duck tonight and im haveing trouble figuring out what it is... its probably easy for someone to identify but my book doesnt show it as i can see and its the first one of these ive ever shot, also got 2 more and a blackduck and a teal and a ringer tonight weird season,, shot all our birds at 3 o'clock this afternoon! thanks for the help

yeah, Im in the same boat. its to bad there usually long gone before they have they nice green mark on there head. ive got a couple that were close.
almost as tuff as getting a full plummed greenwing up here, but by some fluke of natured i managed it so anythings possible.

yeah, Im in the same boat. its to bad there usually long gone before they have they nice green mark on there head. ive got a couple that were close.
almost as tuff as getting a full plummed greenwing up here, but by some fluke of natured i managed it so anythings possible.shot 1 last year on opening day that was close ........ still wish i would of got it mounted !!!!:(:(:(

well i have to bring my daughter to day care in the am which i cant do till 8 but im gonna head back to the lake and sit all day i think try and get some more with the cold weather here in minnesota the birds have been moving rather strangely.

if it wasnt for the bill..Id have said Gadwall! Im not used to shooting ducks not in plummage down here!

im thinking a hen...i dont see any of the rosy reddish breast feathers there. we shot one sunday and that was the only way you could tell the drake from the 2 hens we shot.
Gadwall is a much bigger duck, size of a mallard and the white is in the speculum not up on the shoulders.

gads feet are orange with a little black mixed in. widys feet are gray.. thats the easiest way to tell between the 2 when they are imuture.
the one in the pic looks like a drake.

either immature widgeon or a gaddy just by looking at the wings but most likely widgeon

look at its legs they are grey....
