Guys I just booked a trip to Canada today, Problem is we are probablly gonna be field hunting honkers with some mallard hunting. I'v got the mallard calling covered, but our group only has a few goose callers.... so I want to learn so I can help out, I know that there is nothin worse than a bad caller so I want to learn right. Should I start cheap with the MG or step up to the plate with the SMH ? LIKE THEY SAY... IF YOUR GONNA BE A BEAR, BE A GRIZZLEY. Thanks for the input

If money isn't the factor, i would go with the smh , and get the dvd calling geese 2.0 pratice a lot and you should be good to go, the meat grinder is a good call also, but somewhere down the line you will want to step up so i would just go for it ..

I agree with Gary....but one thing you need to realize is that the MG can make all the sounds the SMH can, it is just that the MG is poly as opposed to the acrylic SMH. I started on the SMH and haven't looked back....but I ALWAYS have a MG on my lanyard!!!!

I couldny agree with Mark and Gary more. I definately second the DVD purchase, and also recommend the CD for when you are in your truck. I started off with the SMH as my first short reed call as well, and haven't put it down. Good luck in Canada.

Marshmster:

You did it right. I did the same thing last year; bought an SMH, along with the DVD, after the season ended and blew the sh#t out of the thing for 10 months. I think your buddies will be impressed with your ability with that call next year.

FYI: I started with an MG; agonized for two months at not having an SMH and wound up buying one. The MG is now my backup in the event the SMH takes a dump.

Good luck.
