I know these are two differnt calls, but I have both on my laynard. The MC was my first Foiles call I purchased and I love it, it has brought many geese down, but I also got a SMH for Christmas and can not blow it all right now. So what should I do lay down the flute and learn the short reed or continue with the flute?
Thanks

I would continue to work on the MC if I were you and if you feel more comfortable with it in the field than use it. Start practicing with your SMH religiously, buy Callin Geese 2.0 (it really helps). If you dont feel confident using it on Geese use the MC and work your a@% off on the SMH this summer. Hope that helps

Don't get rid of that flute. Learn the SMH and slowly start to integrate your SMH.

Same keep both and the 2.0 is a really good decision on getting a DVD. I started with a flute and now am on a short reed. Like always, PRACTICE!!

Learn the SMH, but definately don't put down the flute. It's got too good of a sound to put it up. Besides, you never know what they want to hear and if they want the deep flute tones, one day, and you don't have it with you, then you might as well go to the house.

Use them both. Change it up from time to time. If you hunt with other peeps have someone blowing a SR and you on the flute. Could be a deadly combo.

Use what you most comfortable with in the field but pick up your smh everyday and practice...
Make the jump to the SMH for a little while. You will probably have trouble NOT using your tongue with the SMH. It takes about 6 months of everyday calling just to sound decent on the call.
I just purchased a MC and have been practicing that call for 3 days now. I am doing the exact opposite of what you are doing!

I got both. I think I can get diffrent sounds out of each of them. I also got an HPH that I'm starting to get more use too. I think the more diffrent sounds the better. I do love my SMH the best though.

Keep them both, and use them both.....We all know its hard to teach an old dog new tricks.....but once you figure out the short reed, its addictive, and then you always have the flute in your back pocket when everyone around you is blowing high pitched shortreeds, whip out the ole MC and sound like that old gander...
