Me and the boys just signed up for a Canadien waterfowl hunt near Selkirk Manitoba around the Oak Hammock Marsh. Just wondering if anyone has hunted this area and what to look for? We've always hunted the states so this is all new to us. We will also be doing mostly field hunting instead of from our trusty boat. Any info would be much appreciated!
Thanks

Sounds like you are going to be hunting outside the refuge area of Oak Hammock. Hard to believe but you will run into a lot of hunters at times in that area. If you are going early in the season you can not hunt afternoon. Bring your boat and go for some of the huge! green backs in the Red River you will be minutes away from trophy walleye city. 2 things to think of while you are hunting. If you hunt the refuge they only allow 4 hunters per quarter sections so that make it very enjoyable. It may have changed but I thought you could shoot more geese outside the refuge then in the refuge. If you time it correctly you can also do evening hunts up at Shoal Lake what a blast. If the lake level is normal you can just walk out like 400 yards into the reeds and have a great duck hunt
Lot of options when you are up there.
Thanks

Greanheadassassin,
It would be sweet to stay in contact with you throughout the year before our hunt. We are hiring a guide for this time around just to get to know the territory but we would like to try it on our own in the future. We have all the gear but we have no idea where to hunt. Any info would be great. Maybe we can hook up while we're up there.
Thanks

It is kind of wierd. I have hunted up there many years, fished for the green back, boated up the ?? English river, fished for Cats on the Red  .
Then my best Friend marries a girl from Selkirk Shelly I think she won Miss Toronto one year and was married to one of the Babich brothers.
I do not go up there hunting anymore. Once they started charging that shotgun fee I was done. Oh yeah did plenty of grouse hunting up there and caught 7 master angler small mouths in one day.
Teddies family use to own land on that Island out in lake Winnipeg they built the bridge to :?
I love that area up there paridise!

Anyone else have any info on this area? Our guide is going to be Phil Wiebe from Medicine Creek Adventures. If anyone knows of this guy or company, any referral information would be helpful. We've already locked in with him for the week of October 6th but any info would be great.
Thanks :D
