Am I Wrong?

It seems we're having some trouble with opinions and decoy spreads. 2 of them want to all of our decoys out at right now after 3 weeks of local birds being shot at and not a migratory bird in the area. My thinking was to add little by little or wait until the Widgeon, Teal and Sprig start showing up before throwing out 300 decoys. I was just going for the realism and realistically right now you won't find 300 ducks sitting on a flooded rice field simply because our area doesn't have that amount of birds right now. If I am truly wrong someone please put me in my place, I am open to CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.

You are right. I am running a smaller than usuall spread of mallards, spoonies, a few cans/goldeneys (at my big water spot) with Spec/honkers off to one side. No use throwing out all the wigeon/pin's/teal & gaddies when they have'nt made thier way in yet. Plus it's less to drag out there.;) I agree with your call.

sometimes people look to far into things like this..

make a lunch bet with him. if it works his way you both win. if it doesnt you get a lunch and just pull some of them out of the spread... whats the worst that can happen for a day or two. i am guessing its slow now or he wouldnt be wanting to put more out now instead of later..

nothing is ever set in stone. just try it and see if it works.. if you show him you are willing and open he will be the same way with you on something later.

around here since we have no new birds and the 1's that are are educated , i'd run a real small spread .

As long as you look different than everyone else, that's what matters the most...In the late season when everyone is hunting over a mountain of decoys I'll use 18 again...

you are dead on man. Thats how I have always done it as well. local flocks around here vary from 5 to 15 and i always try to use the same size spread till migrators start rolling in. He obviously does not know anything, veto his ass outta there.
