It seems like no matter how often I clean and oil my sb2 each time I get it out of the safe the top of the rib is speckled with rust...Not a big deal just irratating, any advice?
are u putting it away wet ??????? any other guns in there doing the same ?????? i take it the gun isn't camo dipped .
i had a rem. 11-87 that rusted like thiss on a 6hr drive home from a hunt while it was in the gun case .......... i would suggest puttin cotton balls in the safe or some of those packets they put in boxes of metal stuff that obsorbs the moisture ......
or even put an extra coat of oil on the barrel and dont wipe it off till u pull the gun out next time .

The gun is always put up with a light coat of oil on it, and the rust always wipes right off with a wash rag of shop towel. Just curious of ways to prevent this from re-occuring.

Where do you live, is your safe kept cold, warm or a constant temp. There's a few ways to fix that a light bulb in the winter and a dehumdifier pole in the summer. You need to spray the rib since a rag wont get oil into the viens of the rib.

I live in Kentucky, and the safe lies along an outside wall in my office, so varying temperatures could play a role in the rusting....Thanks for the advice.

Run a 40-60 watt light in the winter. Get one of these there are several brands but I just searched and posting this.

You may also want to think about refinishing the gun, possibly using DuraCoat. You can do it yourself, and when the base metal is prepped properly, the thing won't rust at all.
I refinished my Remington SP-10 and have had no issues at all. The DuraCoat is a polymer/paint type finish and is very scuff resistant.

That sounds like a great idea honestly, where did you purchase this duracoat?

I have to put a decent amount of oil along the top of the rib on mine and seems to keep it from rusting. You do have to wipe if off before going out though. It is not the best but seems to work for me......

Yea, im keeping oil ran over the top of the rib, just hate to see a $1400 gun with less than 200 shells ran through it get rust spots, I know its just a cosmetic thing, guess im just particular. lol

I agree it is stupid that you have to do that.
Here is a website that you can get it dipped for a decent price.

Some one posted a pic a while back of theirs that they had done, looked good.
