I am thinking about getting an all wood SMH. I already have an acrylic SMH and was wondering if this would be a good call to add to my collection.

Its been said that wood produces a more mellow tone.

Would it be good to use this type of call when the geese are in a closer range. For example, 60-80 yards away from the blind?

The reason I am asking this is because I know the acrylic SMH can be loud at times.

I had an all cocobola SMH, but ended up returing it for a cocobola/smoke. The all wood just didn't seem "right" to me. The wood/ smoke call I have is the one that usually ends up in my hands, it can scream and I can tone it down more than I can with my all acrylic models. My 2 cents

i have a cocobola one and i think its more goosey than my other SMH's, maybe how its tuned or because of the wood. but its my go to call all the time. also it does have a more mellow tone.

I have an acrylic and i personally just saw a very slight change. It was more mellow but not much.

I have never blown an all wood but, I've heard that it's more "RASPY" or "GOOSEY" I am looking at getting one if anyone has one.

Don't have an all wood SMH but I do have an all wood MH. I've tried an acylic MH and like my wood one better. Definitely more mellow and somewhat goosier (hard to get any goosier than a SMH though). I plan on buying an all wood SMH at WWIII.
